Message from Crown Heights Jewish Community Council:
There have been many complaints about the mounting garbage in the alleys that has not been collected for several weeks.
Sanitation has inspected the alleys and determined that they cannot safely send men and trucks in to them for pickup until the ice melts some more. However cold temperatures are expected for the next week or more.
Therefore, the Department of Sanitation will schedule special additional pickups on your regular garbage day this Friday or Saturday to pick up on the following streets:
Union St
President St
Carroll St
Crown St
Montgomery St
New York to Brooklyn Aves: Friday
Brooklyn to Troy Aves: Saturday
Please bring all garbage to the front of your home TONIGHT for Friday pickup or tomorrow afternoon before Shabbos for Saturday pickup.
All garbage was being collected today from the allies.
of course they DID NOT pick up the garbage in the alley between carroll and crown, troy and schenectady. it’s just about impossible to go in and out of my garage. do we call mr. diblasio?
they never picked up the garbage as they were
supposed to. this is ridiculous.
thank hashem for the small things He does give you, and stop complaining about the little things!
Or any other private trash haulers and they will have the alleys clean in a few hours.
Go ahead and bill the city for it!
THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT WE HAVE HAD THESE CONDITIONS. ARE WE LIVING IN A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY ? THE ONLY REASON THAT THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS IS DUE TO LACK OF PEOPLE CALLING AND COMPLAINING. wHERE IS OUR COUNCIL? IT IS LUDICROUS TO ASK PEOPLE TO CARRY THREE WEEKS OF WET SMELLY GARBAGE TO THE FRONT. AS THE WEATHER WARMS UP A BIT, THE GARBAGE WILL DEFROST A LOT FASTER THEN THE ICE MELTING, AND THEN WE WILL HAVE A SMELLY AND HAZARDOUS SITUATION, AND WE WILL BE DELUGED BY RATS. I GUESS OUR ESTEEMED… Read more »
Today, Shabbos, on the way to shul, I saw 2 garbage bags sitting on the street. I also saw from far where a car had gone over a bag of garbage. You can imagine the mess
First of all, they said this at least two weeks ago, so if you’d listened then, you wouldn’t have a month’s worth of garbage now.
Secondly, it’s not about the trucks not fitting through, it’s about the safety of their workers. The alleyways are like a sheet of ice. It’s scary and dangerous and unfair to ask of their workers.
you are 100% right. i live on montgomery bet. bklyn and NY i got my car out of the garage no problem and drove through the alley. this morning when i saw this article it was all past so if i had just put it out, we would have new garbage in the front and old garbage in the back. this is if we only put new garbage in the front
Ye sure I’ll take a months worth of garbage and put in on the sidewalk in front of my house so the trucks may not come get it?? For real? How is anyone supposed to do that! That’s hours of work! We live in a cold windy snowy city! We’ve been living in this cold windy snowy city for decades! They can’t figure it out?! Wow! Geniuses! Can wait for the rat problem on the horizon!
Send trucks with salt to melt the ice n then go get the flippin garbage. How do u think they do it in canada?
All im thinking bout is how happy the rats are gonna be 🙁
Call 311 and file a complaint. They need to be flooded with complaints.
This may work for garbage going forward. What about all the piles in the alleys now?
Now they tell us this?? After FOUR weeks of NOT picking up the garbage???? They can salt the alleyways just like they salt the main roads. I’m living in CH for 40 years and we’ve never had this problem before. There is just as much ice in front of the houses as there is in the back alleyway. They can just as easily slip on the ice on the street in between the parked cars to get to the sidewalks that they want us to put the garbage on.
Are they out of their mind?!?!? We should trek three weeks worth of garbage through our homes to the front? They are insane!
We should take all our bags out of the alley and place it where? On the sidewalks? I live on crown st. Bet. Bklyn and kingston. Where should I place all my garbage bags???????
There is no way anyone can take the garbage from the alley and bring it to the front of the house.
Also I just saw this now and they might have picked up the garbage on my block already . So now there will be garbage left not only in the alley in the back but also in the front of the house. If I can take my small car out of the garage and drive it through the alley, a garbage truck can get through
