Shmira Safety Patrol has released security and safety tips for Shluchim attending the Kinus in Crown Heights this weekend.
The New York Police Department has said they will be stepping up patrols at Shuls and Jewish institutions around the New York area following last week’s horrific shooting attack at a Pittsburgh congregation.
Deputy Inspector Francis Giordano, Commanding Officer of the NYPD 71st Precinct in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, said they will be increasing patrols around the neighborhood.
Deputy Inspector Giordano said he is also working on coordinating additional security for the Kinus conference for Shluchim, and will request additional counter-terrorism resources.
Below are a few safety and security tips from Shmira Safety Patrol:
•Be alert of your surroundings and pay attention to those walking near you.
•When using your cellphone, Be alert.
•Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
•Keep money and passports in a safe location.
•Don’t carry large amounts of cash.
•Label suitcases with name and contact information.
•Do not leave bags unattended, even for a second.
•If you are planning to drive, be sure to check that your license is NOT SUSPENDED.
•If you witness or are involved in an incident, call Shmira right away while keeping an eye on the perpetrators from a safe distance when possible.
In light of the recent anti Semitic attacks against our community, Shmira in conjunction with the NYPD 71st Precinct and NYPD 77th Precinct will be stepping up patrols in the area.
