The Sadigura Rebbe R’ Yisroel Moshe Friedman, a prominent member of Moetzas Gedolei Hatorah of Agudas Yisrael in Israel, passed away on 21 Menachem Av, 5780.
He was born in New York to the Chassidic Ruzhiner dynasty and was named after his ancestors R’ Yisroel Friedman of Ruzhin and R’ Moshe Friedman of Boyan Krakow.
He was raised in Israel and learned in the Yeshivos Kamenitz and Ponevezh, before getting married to Rebbetzin Sara, daughter of the Viznitz chossid, R’ Chaim Moshe Feldman.
He founded the Ruzhiner shul Ohr Yisroel in Golders Green in London and served as a rov for the Sadigura chassidim around the world.
Upon the passing of his father the Sadigura Rebbe R’ Avrohom Yaakov Friedman in 5773, he moved to Bnei Brak and assumed leadership as the only son of his father’s three children.
He followed his father’s example and kept a close friendship with Chabad Rabbonim and Chassidim. He also merited to receive a bracha from the Lubavitcher Rebbe at 770 Eastern Parkway on Sunday, 24 Sivan, 5750.
As Sadigura Rebbe, he founded a new Talmud Torah in Bnei Brak and additional shuls in Ramat Beit Shemesh, Tzfas, Elad and Beitar Illit.
For nearly a year, he underwent various treatments in Los Angeles before moving back to Israel several months ago. On Monday night, he collapsed at his home and was rushed to the Tel Hashomer Hospital where he passed away.
He is survived by his wife, 10 children and grandchildren.
