Last sunday, the Kehilas Tsemach Tsedec – Beis Chabad of Pompeia, S. Paulo, Brazil, led by Rabbi Yossef Benzecry, celebrated the completion of a new Sefer Torah and the beginning of construction of two Mikvaos (for women and men).
First, Rabbi Benzecry explaned that by Divine Providence, this double celebration was taking place on the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attack, bringing light in the darkness.
He also explained that according to halacha, when a community doesn’t have a Mikvah, it is necessary to sell even their only Sefer Torah to build one; and here this is not only not the case, but is the cause of a double celebration.
Rabbi Ehud Kwin, the Rosh Colel of the Kehilas Tsemach Tsedec, talked about the importance of Torah study for both parents and children, through which we can raise chasidishe families.
Finally, Rabbi Shamai Ende, the Rosh Yeshivah of Tomchei Temimim in S. Paulo, spoke as well, about the great zchus of doing both a hachnosas Sefer Torah and having the Mikvaos.
