Rabbi Berel Lazar, the Chief Rabbi of Russia, currently visiting the United States, met with the Satmar Rebbe – Horav Zalmen Leib Teitelbaum at residence in Williamsburg.
For over an hour, the two discussed the state of Russian Jewry, the activities of Chabad emissaries throughout the former Soviet Union, and the historical ties between the Chabad and Satmar dynasties.
The Satmar Rebbe expressed deep interest and admiration for Rabbi Lazar’s dedication and efforts on behalf of Yemenite and Iranian Jews.
Accompanying him were educator, Rabbi Zalman Leib Markowitz, Crown Heights activist Eli Slavin.
After presenting the Satmar Rebbe with his new book, “Shlach Lachmecha,” the guest and host shared a toast and exchanged New Year blessings.
Rabbi Lazar arrived in New York at the head of a group of one hundred supporters of his institutions to participate in the annual Selichot prayers at the Rebbe’s Ohel.
