Due to the outbreak of the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Chief Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berel Lazar, called on all Jews in the country to add in prayers on Shabbos for the peace of citizens and Jews of all communities.
“Shalom is one of the names of G-d, and we daven to Him every day that there will be peace between people and between nations, and that’s also His will – that we’ll do whatever is in our power for a life of shalom between all,” Rabbi Lazar wrote.
“We call to daven that blood will not be spilled, Heaven forbid, and of course, to provide as much support as possible to whoever is facing particular difficulties, including those who were forced to leave their homes, who now need physical assistance and emotional support. We’ll all open our hearts with emunah and bitachon and b’ezras Hashem we’ll be zocheh to calmness and tranquility.”
Following this appeal, hundreds of Jewish communities in all Russian cities increased their Jewish activity, adding Torah lessons, Minyanim and Tehillin, and this Shabbat the Jews of the cities were invited to come en masse to synagogues, out of sympathy and solidarity with our brothers everywhere.
Let him meet with Putin directly and discuss Sholom or at least a cease fire.
Rabbi Lazar could be bring up 11 Nissan and Sheva Mitsvos
The Torah says kings are entitled to wage war, and have the right to kill up to 1/6 of the world’s population without any guilt.
Putin ain’t no king!!
Delightful.
Bnei Noah are prohibited to wage milchemet reshut – optional war.
May Hashem help that neither of the above commenters ever be in any kind of leadership position. Because their naivete would spell absolute disaster.
Life isn’t a children’s book. There, following your advice would cause Putin to say, “B-zhe moi, I never thought of that! I’ll pull back my forces immediately!” Meanwhile, it the real world the result would more likely be the no-questions-asked-no-appeal-possible shutdown of all Chabad activities in the country.
What happened with his connections with Putin! What an unneccissary war! This conflict could have been prevented! I hope to G-d that none of the Shluchim get effecte by this war, or any jJEWJw
Yishmor!!! Everyone say Tehillim and give extra Tzidakah!!!!
ומי יודע אם לעת כזאת הגעת למלכות
IS THIS A TIME TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT MALCHUS WHEN THERE IS A UNNEEDED WAR? Have you a concept of what war can do to people? Think twice and get Putin to change his mind Achshav! Extra Tehillim and Tzedakah Now!
he’s just one man he can’t stop a war – why is everyone putting so much pressure on this amazing human being?
He should publicly condemn his pal Putin.
Putin has made many people disappear. The Jewish community needs him more in order to navigate internal Jewish affairs. Many powerful Russians disagree with Putin, and those more powerful than him are afraid to take a stand. Hopefully enough Russians can come together to beat Putin, but until then, his responsibilities are too great to risk getting involved.
Whoever is telling rabbi lazar to “take a stand ” has no inkling about the world of Russia.,and is just publicly proclaiming their ignorance. Even his public call for peace takes the greatest amount of courage. You are basically asking rabbi Lazar to speak his mind in front of a Rusha with a loaded pistol. The Rebbe told us so many times that the way to deal with russia is quietly.Sitting comfortably in america and telling Rabbi Lazar what to do in Russia is a combination of chutzpah and ignorance. Rabbi Lazar has given his life to the yidden in those… Read more »
