Students of the grade 6 English class at Lubavitcher Yeshiva in Crown Heights received a letter from imprisoned Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin this week.
“The happy letters and great brachos that you sent brings lots of light to this dark place,” the former manager of Iowa’s Agriprocessors meat plant wrote.
Writing on the eve of Yud Shvat, Rubashkin told them “I don’t have the ability to farbreng here with fellow Chassidim” and offered a Dvar Torah on this week’s Parshas Beshalach.
Rubashkin awaits sentencing on the 86 counts of financial fraud that a federal jury found him guilty of last fall. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied a request for bail earlier this month.
A few weeks ago the students sent personal letters to Linn County Correctional Center in Cedar Rapids, IA, for Rubashkin.
Their teacher Yosef Shidler said he hoped other school children would follow suit. “It would be amazing if Shalom Mordechai received hundreds of letters from Jewish children worldwide.”
Letters to Rubashkin can be sent to this address (a return address is required for It to be delivered):

Hashem is just. are you suggesting that people who inflict pain on others should not bear any consequences? i dont get your reasoning- or maybe your so naive that you believe we have to be nice to everyone- eventhough theyre trying to kill you…wake up…were in golus.
