The Rostov Jewish community commemorated Chof Cheshvan – the Rebbe Rashab’s birthday – with many exciting activities and events.
The highlight was a visit by Tomchei Tmimim of Moscow for three days. They came to liven up the city with a real Yeshiva atmosphere. Among the bochurim were two boys from Rostov who just joined the Yeshiva 2 months ago, and came back fully energized and inspired.
Friday prior to Shabbos community members were invited to learn Chavrusa style with the visiting bochurim. Following Kabolas Shabbos close to 100 students gathered to join a lively meal and farbrengen in the Rostov youth club which lasted until the early hours of the morning.
On Shabbos 5 girls received Jewish names. Towards the end of Shabbos a beautiful seder nigunim was held. After Havdallah a large group of students joined the bochurim in the Rebbe’s house for a special and intimate farbrengen.
Sunday the community gathered to daven at the Rebbe’s Ohel, for personal and communal needs. Following that a large Hakhel Farbrengen was held in Shul with inspiring words by Rabbi Alexander Pruchansky of Kfar Sitrin, Israel.
The heroes of the day were Artyom (24) and Misha (9), who decided to give the Rebbe a gift for his birthday and underwent a Bris, choosing the Jewish names, Yakov and Shimon.
“When the Bochurim first arrived, one of the older ones approached me and pointed to a picture on one of the shul walls showing a youth seminar we did some 4 years ago. He pointed to a boy with long hair standing right beside me, and said with a smile, that is me!” relayed Rabbi Chaim Danzinger. “He continued to tell me that he lived 3 hours away from Rostov, and heard about our seminar and decided to attend. It was his first Jewish experience. The rest is history.”
Eliyahu, the boy from the picture is a real masmid, i learn in the same yeshiva as him.
