Mrs. Rivka Hurwitz, a devoted wife, mother, and Bubby, passed away on Shabbos, Parshas Teruma-Zachor, 8 Adar, 5781.
She was 61.
Born to Rabbi Raphael Zev and Mindel Cymberg in Southgate, England, Rivka came to Crown Heights when she was a teenager. She married Rabbi Mendel (Tashkenter) Hurwitz, and together they opened the first Chabad House in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
They eventually settled in Baltimore, MD, where they were active in the community.
Known for her open home and joy of life, Rivka inspired thousands with her classes and shiurim. Bitachon and gratitude to Hashem were her trademarks.
She was a beloved and dear friend, as was evidenced by the outpouring of love and davening in her merit when she fell ill.
Rivka is survived by her husband, Rabbi Mendel Hurwitz, her children Chanie and Yehuda, and her grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Shebson, Judy Lowy, and Jackie Gross.
The levaya will take place tomorrow, Sunday, leaving Shomrei Hadas – 12 pm, and passing by 770 around 1 pm, with burial at Montefiore Cemetery.
Baruch Dayan Ha’emes.
I can not believe I am sitting here and typing this! Rivka!!! This is so heartbreaking! You were always a warrior! You were such a fighter! You inspired anyone around you, and your listening ear was just the best! I remember coming to Westchester to watch your kids for a Shabbos, and your community loved you so much! It didn’t matter where we were. In Baltimore for Shabbos for Yudele’s Bar mitzvah, the attitude was the same. There were so many people who used to tell me that they knew you from Rio. You started your yarn business so Mendel… Read more »

This is unreal..the Baltimore community and beyond is heartbroken. You always had a smile and a kind word. You were so full of life. We are still in shock that you are in the next world. Please be a maylitz yoshar. We want to dance by Channies wedding and tell Hashem for us Moshiach now so we can all be reunited.
We have lost a warm and caring aunt, and the world has lost a brilliant and loving woman.
Rivka was a force who blazed a trail for so many of her fellow yidden with her immense knowledge and exceptional talents. This family has had to endure so much pain, yet they carried a smile and inspired ‘chayus’ and determination to so many whom they engaged. Now they have lost Rivka. Please Hashem bring them healing and brochos of joy, so that may not know of pain any longer. We wish all of them and each of them individually, healing and happiness. May you be comforted and quickly have only good news to share. המקום ינחם אתכם בתוך שאר… Read more »
