VIDEO: Story about the Rebbe
Story about the Alter Rebbe

Question of the Week: The Anafeam organization's YouTube channel produces AI-generated videos for children about tzadikim, including animations of the Alter Rebbe and the Rebbe. Do they honor their legacy, or are they disrespectful? Video
I think they’re disrespectful because although they are created through the best of intentions, we have so many videos of our rebbe and it doesn’t seem right to produce videos of our rebbe “animated”. For similar reasons, people don’t like to have paintings of the Rebbe in their home as opposed to real life ones although I think these videos are a step farther and a bit worse
A PAINTING of the alter rebbe ??
they dont look anything like the Rebbe or the alter rebbe as we know him from the drawings we have. I really disagree with this and find it disrespectul
What happened to the fact that we tell kids, ‘dont practice your drawings with pictures of our Rebbeim, as if they come out even a drop wrong, it is disrpectful’ Some of these pictures i find hard to belive are evn supposed to be of our Raboseinu N’sieinu, and even the ones that do have a slight resemblance, it still does not look like our Rebbeim Please do not make this acceptable, lets stop this disrespect If you want videos of our Rebbeim, there Tzivos Hashem videos that actually look like our Rabosienu N’sienu And the main thing is that… Read more »
So wrong
I get where ppl r coming from that it’s disrespectful but at the same time kids don’t like to watch black and white videos and when these videos are animated and stories that we always hear are now animated into kids videos that amazing! That’s what this was created for
AI of any real person is troubling, but especially a tzaddik. A computer grossly misrepresents the image of a tzaddik, its an imagined face based off the tzaddik. Its a mockery! Ugh! Use AI for good things but please use good judgement!
Def a no no
Please don’t use AI for this
This is absolutely sacrilegious.
All I can say is that if someone was making a animation video like that for me I would love for him to run it through with me before publicizing, for some reason the Rebbe gets put in all types of weird and disrespectful circumstances and no one feels the need to get his permission.
I’m all for utilizing technology, and I use AI daily for work, but this makes me want to throw up. So disturbing. We have actual footage of the Rebbe. Why on earth would we want fake footage? If it actually looked real then we would be having a different conversation with different issues – but this doesn’t even look remotely accurate. It’s awful. The Alter Rebbe one creeps me out as well. Zero attempt to actually match details with historical research. Relying on AI to fill in the gaps for you instead of using it as a tool is so… Read more »
this is disrespectful and should be taken down
i dont think its disrespectful, because that isnt the intention of the person creating it. but i dont think it should be done with people who we have actual pictures of especially a well respected person like the Rebbe.
like a former poster said, we have enough videos of the Rebbe, no need to use AI for this.
the question is what about using AI to make a video of Dovid Hamelech and Moshe Rabeinu. or even anyone acting as historical figures such as the names above, in camp plays.
very disrespectful
Noooooo
Please don’t
Its a wrong question. The whole drive is amazing in my uneducated opinion, and sadly for me opposite in the uneducated opinion of others. BOTH ARE IRRELEVANT. All what is relevant what hallocha and minhag tells.
AI video’s like this are to prepare us for the coming Techiyas Hameisim, so that is should not be a huge shock. It’s a light foretaste of the world after Moshiach arrives.
No. No. No. not what our children should be watching. Totally distorted.
Absolutely not, this is disrespectful
But please do a video of a chosid or chasidim , please not the Rebbe
אל תגעו במשיחי
I find this as weird looking as anyone else, but it’s worth noting that these were not made by Lubavitchers, and were made with one total respect for the Rebbeim, and that itself is beautiful.
Even so as Chassidim of the Rebbe we must make sure not to endorse this in anyway, and just because they think this gives Kavod to the Rebe, we know it doesnt
You connect to his soul.
These pictures do not connect to his soul. They are a strange derangement of the most beautiful thing in the world.
Making the Rebbe some fluffy kutchy mutchy smiley artscrol gadol is not okay at all .
if I had to I would complain about this account on YouTube please please take it down !!
This should not be up for discussion.
I don’t think any chassidishe yid would approve of this question.
WHy does anyone think it is okay?!
I am sure the Rebbe would encourage use of AI to spread Chasidus. Why is this any different from a comic book that has a drawing or the Rebbe?
It’s not different at all. Any drowning of the Rebbe that isn’t exact shouldn’t be in these comics.
Well said
I can’t stand those comic books which have distorted pictures of the Rebbe
had comic depictions of the Alter Rebbe and other Rebbeim and tzaddikim, and to the best of my knowledge it was approved by the Rebbe.
Gives kids, wrong and fake impression of the holy Rebbeim,
This is very disturbing and uncomfortable for your average reader… thanks for brining it to our attention, although I think most of us would rather it be taken down
Totally inaccurate
This is simple lack of human sensitivity.
How is an AI photo different than all those terrible artists who paint the Rebbe and then sell them to the public?
We all know of painting of the Rebbe that are really good and some we would never hang in our home even if it was given to us as a gift
AI is just a modern form of art and no one has a copyright on the image of the Rebbe, so what can’t you do?!
can be disrespectful too!!
The rebbe himself told someone his painting he made of him is better than the original . So no problem
With painting .
That doesn’t mean you should use inaccurate paintings
A painting does not have to be a replica or photo realistic to be good. That’s not what it’s about. It is about one persons interpretation of the person he is painting. That’s why art is appreciated. It is not secret that the artist is part of the drawing. It may be similar, perhaps, to someone saying over a dvar torah based on a sicha. Interpertation is part of it. And each speaker has their way of presenting the idea to bring it to the audience. Thus human made art has its respected place. AI has much value too. But… Read more »
Post 5754 Hiskashrus is hard enough, especially for our youth. Please don’t cut their last thread…
(And it’s also disrespectful)
Outright disrespectful!!
where’s the respect?!
Clearly, whoever is creating it has no idea what the rebbe is.
Is he bichlal chabad?
VERY WRONG.
I think its really wierd. Maybe you can make a difference between the rebbe who we have real videos on and the Alter rebbe which we dont. I think when people see AI and Rebbe in the same sentence they freak out. Is this the same as those comics books, such as the one about Rabbi groner, which has cartoon pictures of the rebbe that dont look 100% the same? Or thats okay becasue its not Ai? If someone would ask the rebbe im not convinced he would say no. Though its clear that no’one, even not Chabard, would have… Read more »
All the stories of the rebbe they choose the one of the rebbe saving a boy by a beach? Wearing shorts as a young boy .. no tzitzis?? U don’t even watch a king getting a haircut .. this is irresponsible insensitive and wrong on so many levels .. I hope the authors of the video can be educated on proper respect
This a complete disrespect to do this with someone like our 7 rebayim it should never be done and if it was done it shou l e he immediately removed that’s the biggest discrase ever
Little cartoon “Menachem Mendel” has a quite non-Chassidishe haircut. That alone is troubling, since he was certainly brought up in a frum and pure environment.
Plus, I don’t see many if any visible tzitzis on any of the boys or men — big discrepancy!
Example the first video I think if it helps kids since we do not have videos of when the Rebbe was 10 they could put it as a cartoon however in the later part there is no reason to have it AI (cartoon) because we have a lot of footage of the Rebbe at rallies which is much better than cartoon.
As for of the quality I have to say it’s poor quality.
This is a new level
My first feeling is “This is weird”
at the same time i had a similar reaction & feeling when i saw, storybooks in a humurous way, with animation in books for kids, and those books serve their purpose, AI will have some room to reach people, & everyone will always know its just AI.
this is not what the rebbe looks like i was never zoche to see the rebbe and i should be zoche tekif umiyad mamosh but from the videos i have watched from all over this looks like someone who looks like the rebbe but not the rebbe himself
you can say the same thing about paintings of the rebbe but thats a different story
we should be zoche to see the rebbe now and no need for ai
I am 18 and being someone who wasn’t Zoche yet to see the Rebbe (with all due respect to those who have seen), I strongly oppose anyone showing such disrespect to the Rebbe, who is our Nossi, Leader of our Generation and Moshiach of our Generation.
It does not even capture the rebbe!
No
This article asks the wrong question. It is a beautiful thing that Litvish story tellers are writing on our Rabbeim. A beautiful thing. The question is whether we Chasidim should use these. The fact that they mixed up the Yiddish part with the Frierdiker Rebbe is also symbolic. A chosid knows that our stories are Torah. Litvish work in sechel and aren’t gores the kedusha of the details of the stories. But chas vshalom and chas vshalom – and chas vshalom – to criticize them for promoting our Rabbeim. The only question is should we watch or show our children.… Read more »
If you look into where they are from, you will see that the outfit putting it out is of Sefardim/Eidos Hamizrach, not Litvaks.
To show the Rebbe as a young boy who is dressed in a modern way with a modern haircut at a beach scene is not a correct portrayal of the Rebbe at all.
AI inherently is devoid of aidelkeit and kedusha
After reading many comments & thoughts here. Most/all are negative, claiming disrespect & mostly inaccuracies to the point of many points are found to be utterly disrespectful dishonorable to our Holy Rabbayim, such as the story woth saving the child from drowning. A few points some mentioned on other comments…. 1) the modern Chup on the child. 2) the trimmed beard of the father (that hurt a lot knowing how much Reb Levik fought against the kgb not to touch his beard after the arrest) 3) it was Rebbetzin Chana who was with the Rebbe by the water. And other… Read more »
The features are so different than the rebbe ,looks like a different person.
After my initial comment. As an after thought. A question comes to mind.
Why would collive.com post this?
Why do we feel we need to jump on others wagons as to glorify the Rebbe? We have so much treasures to share why the need for this?
As we say וואו קריכסט דו?
Besuros Tovos
Nobody here has mentioned that besides this being extremely disrespectful and disturbing, this is only the beginning of AI technology which can get quite dangerous. Now we can tell that it’s AI, but who knows?
If someone has connection to the team behind this, would be great to intervene. Acknowledging there is a new trend in AI, we just have to make sure it doesn’t come into this… interfering with the Rebbe’s respect and image
No matter the intentions, it shouldn’t be an option
It kind of reminds me how the rebbe will look when moshiach comes with such beauty AI is 7th and going into 8th generation geulah process energy and a lot of thi control how we should feel about this and about that is 6th gen energy and lot of crown heights is stuck there and that’s their process to break through. We Need these stories it creates an imagination for a child and doesn’t fully take away from the rebbe’s image
It “reminds you” of how the Rebbe “will look” ?
How do you know , maybe your just speaking from your escape of traditional respect , to align to your own perceived notion of reality , we know it disrespect you say so yourself “it dosnt FULLY take away “ yes it does, we have plenty of footage of the Rebbe speaking to children
AI is amazing, and I love using it, but it’s far from perfect.
When I write something with AI, I review it ten times and make many corrections before using it.
If I create an AI-generated picture, it’s just for fun. I’d never publish it in a book, especially not a children’s book, if it has people missing arms, distorted fingers, or garbled text.
These videos are terrible for kids. The graphics are awful, with mangled limbs and other obvious issues.
How much more so should the Rebbe not be mixed into this mess.
Anyone who had the zechus to have seen the rebbe knows that his eyes penetrated the neshoma, it could be in individual contact or in crowded 770.
While watching Rebbe videos, one of my grandchildren told me he felt the Rebbe was talking to him.
This material would be better presented with in book form than video.
The video above, while well-intentioned, seemed creepy and sterile. Maybe it’s just too new, or I am the wrong generation to like it. But I think it gives distorted messages. Another frum website puts out the weekly parshas in AI, presumably for kids. (It might be the same company, or Israeli-based.) Although the tzaddikim — Avos, Imahos, Moshe, Shevatim, etc. — had their backs turned to avoid showing their faces, the effect was still disrespectful. And just plain weird. The men looked like they stepped out of Young Israel, not Eretz Yisroel — trimmed beards (or no beards), leather kippot,… Read more »
That is scarily disrespectful and should not be done
The rebbe is presented too connected to the common people, too smiley, it doesn’t match up
What a miracle. Living in Achdus times.
No, no and no.
If i recall correctly, the rebbe endorsed the comic of mendy and the golemb.
Plus we are not muslims that it is blasphemy to create an image, or catoon
Therfore, this negates an asur of halacha.
BUT ask a moiray halacha as this is my opinion
You make a great point and a מעשה רב from the Rebbe’s enthusiastic endorsement of Mendy and the Golem (he also endorsed the Tzivos Hashem magazine which had/s comical representations of tzadikim)
