Boxes of Seforim from the Central Chabad Library that were damaged after a recent heavy rainstorm in the New York City area were returned today to the Library shelves.
The Seforim had sustained some water damage after the Crown Heights, Chabad Headquarters 770, as well as the Central Chabad Library next door, flooded during the storm and a newly installed water pump system failed due to a power outage.
The seforim, which thankfully sustained only minor water damage during the electricity outage, were carefully removed by bochurim Mendel Cunin (Ben Yossi) and Menachem Cunin (ben Chaim), and were restored by the Polygon Group, a professional restoration company that specializes in restoring water-damaged books through the use of vacuum freeze drying chambers.
This is the same company that was used in the past when seforim were damaged. Using a system of vacuum freezing and then air drying in expensive and state-of-the-art machinery, the seforim were expertly restored to prevent any damage and warping.
“The restoration process worked amazing Baruch Hashem,” one of the bochurim told COLlive.com. “The Seforim look new, almost like a ‘before’ photo instead of the ‘after’ photo,” he said.
“We are grateful we could bring the seforim back to their true home in 770,” the bochurim told COLlive.com.
