Rabbi Shimon Galai, Rosh Kollel Kesser Torah in Bnei Brak who is known for his heartfelt davening, paid a visit to Chabad of Mercer County in Princeton, New Jersey on Friday.
He came to use the Mikvah at Chabad before Shabbos and was greeted by the Shliach Rabbi Dovid Dubov.
Rabbi Dubov, compiler of Yalkut Levi Yitzchak and the set of Yalkut Moshiach Ugeula al Hatorah, presented him one of his seforim.
Rabbi Galai is especially attuned to others, even those who aren’t living according to Torah and Mitzvos. He expressed great respect for the “merit of the Shluchim who are m’zakei harabim” (granting merit to the many to do Mitzvos).
A known story about him happened in 2003 when a police car mistakingly ran over his foot and knocked him down to the ground. Doctors estimated that Rabbi Galai would not be able to walk again.
But at the moment of the crash, the police officer responsible for the crash rushed over to Rabbi Galai who was deeply in pain.
“Can I do something to help?” the officer asked.
Rabbi Galai responded with a warm voice despite the suffering: “If you want to help me, begin keeping Shabbos.”
