For the 2nd year, a training conference will be held in Queens, NY, for Chabad bochurim taking part in this year’s Released Time program that teaches Jewish boys and girls in public schools.
The conference will be held on Sunday, 28 Tishrei – October 11, and will focus on giving the Released Time’s weekly instructors an opportunity to unite and revitalize. An emphasis on being a Hakhel gathering will also be made.
The program will include a seminar that will give the bochurim vital tools in order to empower them to make this upcoming year of Released Time a lasting success.
The event will be open to all bochurim studying in the Central Tomchei Tmimim Yeshiva at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn who plan to participate in Released Time this upcoming school year.
It will begin with a gourmet lunch at Kehilas Sha’arei Rachamim where Rabbi Sholom Ber Hecht, Chairman of Released Time, serves as Rabbi. Rabbi Shmuel Zalmanov, who ran Released Time in the 1970’s, will be the guest speaker at the lunch.
Following the lunch, the Bochurim will be participating in a seminar at Chabad J.C.C. run by Rabbi Mordy Hecht.
The seminar will include workshops on how to structure a functional class as well as lesson planning; it will be centered around a special presentation prepared for this event by long-time educator, Rabbi Yosef Minkowitz who will give the main address.
Following these informative presentations, a panel of notable Released Time instructors will share their thoughts and ideas on how to create a successful program for the over 50 Released Time locations currently held In N.Y.C.
The day will conclude with a well-deserved barbecue supper for all of the Bochurim to enjoy.

I went to PS 40 Manhattan in the 1950s. Most of the school was Jewish, but all the Catholic kids disappeared during released time, leaving everyone else to do individual arts and crafts projects. Now a Chabad House is 2 minute walk for the school.
