Released Time Teachers Prepare for New Year at Conference

More than 100 Bochurim gathered at Anshe Sholom Chabad in Kew Gardens, Queens, for a memorable Released Time Teachers’ Conference filled with learning, inspiration, and camaraderie.

Held in a warm and welcoming atmosphere under the directorship of Rabbi Mordechai Zev Hecht, Member of the Beis Din of East Flatbush, the conference brought together a team of presenters dedicated to enriching Jewish education for public school students.

The conference featured a lineup of esteemed speakers who shared their experiences and insights. Rabbi Shmulik Zalmanov began the lunch program with a captivating presentation on the behind-the-scenes efforts of the historic Sukkah Farbrengen in 5737. This unique gathering, exclusively for Released Time children and instructors, marked a powerful moment in the program’s history, illustrating the deep connection between the Rebbe and the Released Time children.

Rabbi Shazak Zirkind, the program’s director, opened the conference by explaining the essence of Released Time. Insights on effective education strategies were then shared by Chinuch consultant Rabbi Yossi Raskin, who spoke passionately about the importance of fostering a positive learning environment. His talk, filled with practical tips and inspirational anecdotes, reinforced the profound impact that dedicated educators can have on their students.

Rabbi Mendel Raskin from JewQ International shared personal memories and strategies from his extensive experience with Released Time. His reflections underscored the importance of creativity and compassion in teaching, leaving attendees motivated and ready to apply these lessons in their classrooms.

Instructors were also addressed by 770 Hanhola members Rabbis Shloima Zarchi and Levi Klyne, along with Released Time directors Rabbis Sadya Engel and Yehoshua Shneur. Throughout the day, they enjoyed a lavish lunch and dinner catered by Hildesheim Catering.

As the day concluded, Rabbi Sholem Ber Hecht, chairman of NCFJE, expressed gratitude for the dedication and hard work of all the educators present. His words underscored the importance of the Released Time program and its impact on countless children.

Rabbi Mendel Kotlarsky from the Merkos Kinnus Office took attendees on a delightful journey, sharing memories from when he began directing the Released Time program in 5740, alongside Rabbi JJ Hecht, under the guidance of the Rebbe. His recollections highlighted the program’s growth and evolution, emphasizing the importance of reporting back to the Rebbe after every week and month.

The conference was not only an opportunity for the instructors to learn and grow but also to connect with fellow veteran teachers and share experiences. It was a day filled with inspiration and a renewed commitment to the vital work of Jewish education. As the participants left, there was a palpable sense of determination and purpose, ready to continue their important work in the year ahead.

The Released Time program, established in 1941, stands proudly as the flagship program of the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE).
