Children enrolled in the Released Time program of New York look forward to the annual Crown Heights Shabbaton all year.
This year as always, a group of Released Time children joined the Shabbaton which consisted of many exciting activities, giving the children a true taste of Shabbos.
The never fading smiles on the faces of the children participating were a testament to the exceptional experience they were having. From the dancing in 770, to the singing in the streets, every moment from leaving their public schools until returning home late Motzei Shabbos was packed with excitement.
The Friday evening meals, generously hosted by Rabbi and Mrs. Menachem Gerlitzky and Rabbi and Mrs. Zalman Minkowitz lasted until late, and the day meal was hosted by Rabbi and Mrs. Sadya Engel.
Shabbos day was packed with learning, Davening, and loads of fun activities. One of the highlights was the “Jewish kids unite” towards the end of Shabbos;
each Released Time child was paired up with a 6th Grade Oholei Torah student.
Together they learned a Sicha, answered some questions and then had a great time playing games while enjoying Kosher snacks.
It was really beautiful to see the children from such different backgrounds spending quality time with each other.
After Shabbos, the pressure was on; so much to do and so little time. First was dinner at the local pizza shop. Then the children went to Sweet Expressions to cash in their Mishnayos Baal Peh coupons. Finally the children had the time of their lives at an arcades trip located at Atlantic center mall.
A special thanks goes to Hatomim Hachoson Yossi Grosh for coordinating this Shabbaton and to F.R.E.E for providing their facility as well as support and to the Rubashkin and Bryski Families for their hospitality .
Such a powerful experience
Just wondering if anyone knows something the Rebbe ever said about the idea of a shabbaton?
keep up your amazing work.
