A monument marking the home where the Lubavitch Rebbe Rabbi Menachem Schneerson was born was vandalized for the second time this year, according to an October 26, 2009 report by the AEN news agency.
Someone splashed black paint on the monument in Nikolaev, Ukraine.
Earlier this year, vandals took a hammer to the monument and pasted
antisemitic leaflets on it. Police are investigating the latest
incident; UCSJ is not aware of any arrests in connection with the
February 2009 vandalism.
The Nikolayev monument – a black granite open book – was erected in August 2008 on the corner of Moskovskaya and Dunayeva streets – not far from the place where Schneerson was born.
The monument was erected on the initiative of the Nikolayev Jewish community, with a donation from the Shaul family of Los Angeles and support of the local mayor.
