Leaders from the Black and Jewish communities held a rally in Crown Heights Thursday afternoon to express support for Troy McLeod, who was seen on video being pushed from his wheelchair during an assault on March 29.
Leaders called for peace and unity among the community and called for the alleged attacker, Levi Kabakov, to be held accountable.
“There is never a justification to hit someone in a wheelchair, to assault someone throwing them out of a wheelchair, we condemn all violence,” said Rabbi Yaacov Behrman, of Jewish Future Alliance.
“This was a heinous attack, and we want to see charges, that reflect this, but this is not about pitting community against community, we are against all violence, said the Rev. Kevin McCall.
“This is not two sides, we are all in this together, to work for love and against hate,” said Rabbi Eli Cohen, who says he spoke with McCleod prior to the rally.
“I was touched that he said he is a peaceful man, he does not want hate, and that he does not want another Crown Heights riot,” Cohen said referencing the 1991 riots that took place in the area.
“Our communities have been persecuted in the past, and both communities have come together for each other in the past,” Behrman said.

Wow a yid pushes a black (who got up less than a second later and clearly did not get hurt) and they have massive rallies, where was the rally when a black stabbed the bucher?!?!? clearly just antisemitism!
Agreeeee
The video that was posted originally by the news didn’t show the whole story. A video posted later by a Jewish reporter clearly shows the man in the wheelchair trying to attack them with a bench. I think the way the community has used this Jewish guy as a scapegoat to try to keep community relations ok is not ok. You can say it isn’t right to knock over a guy in a wheelchair. But I don’t think that was his intention to make him fall out of his wheelchair. I think he was being attacked and he responded. And… Read more »
You sure the bentch attack wasn’t the other way around? Why isn’t this video posted anywhere?
How can u sleep nights knowing u put down another Yid b’fahrhesia?!
That really does wonders for his case you guys!! B”H there is a merciful Eibershter who takes care of His kinder! ברוך הגבר אשר יבטח בה׳
Today I witnessed a protest that took place near Bank of America– a protest labeled a “Peace Rally” – held in response to an incident in which, it is claimed, a man in a wheelchair was attacked by two Jews. During the event, harsh statements were made. Public speakers describing the incident insisted that the man was a “peaceful, disabled individual” who was simply strolling calmly and fell victim to an unprovoked attack. They chanted, “No justice – no peace,” and demanded severe punishment for the alleged attackers – all this before any formal evidence was presented or a legal… Read more »
Perfectly expressed! Thank you!
When the man in the wheelchair got pushed, his dogs did not attack nor came close to the people, they stayed away. Watch the video again.
not to forget in all of this, is, that we live on a small jewish island in a sea of goyim , blacks, and, antisemites. for safety it isnt such a good neighborhood.
Whateverworks…
Yes what Kabakov did was not right. However, what the black guy did was not right as well, and he should be condemned as well. We cannot just address what the Jew did wrong to make peace. I am certain that justice will be serve for the Yid and he will not be pressed with charges against him for trying to protect his kids.
According to the accounts I’m reading on here, R’ (first name) Kabakov was very much right.
And hopefully, bezH, something will happen to that man and his dogs that is permanently right
if we follow the rebbe’s lead – we can see that the rebbe has a very positive outlook on relations between the black and jewish communitys.
in the rebbe own words: ‘not two peoples but one people under god’
and so,
we have to learn from the rebbe
No two State Solution.
The comment quotes the Rebbe by Dollars after Crown Heights riots (!!) and it gets a bunch of down votes. Classic
It wasn’t about hate, it was about defending and protecting ones kids. This article is very misleading and portraying a Jewish community as a perpetrator while he WAS DEFENDING HIS KIDS!! According to collive this was on shabbos, he didn’t have a cell phone to call NYPD! What was he supposed to do, allow the dogs to harm his children? And then things would definitely be differnet!!! I was uncomfortable reading the above article and only afterwards read this: https://collive.com/after-street-fight-calls-in-crown-heights-to-prevent-racial-tension/ Yes peace is important, and we should make every effort, but this father acted in self defense. WE MUST BE… Read more »
But even our own news outlets are showing just one side.
The apologetic Jews bulked up the crowd at this important protest
We made it from 3 losers waiting on a corner to a real event! Yay us!
Time for electing ch people, who represent the people living in ch!!
Not trying to appease the people living outside!!
We new elections!!
What is up with our “representatives”?!
Such CLOWNS (in dress and in the way they act)
Who is currently on?
Yesssss
While there is hate happening all over social media as a result of a news 12 post on the unfortunate incident a few weeks ago, a picture tells a thousand words. Having gone through the rough times of 91′, I’m so glad that this is the story the day after, because yesterday was an opportunity for community where leaders and neighbors to got together to denounce violence and hate. Beside the condemnations, yesterday was an opportunity for leaders and our community on both sides to come together and have difficult conversations and keep communication open. Yes the incident and the… Read more »
You mean chaverim but whatever
For the correction!
Hock nisht kon chainik with the fancy political, correct talk. The correct thing to have done at this demonstration or call with what you wish, would have been to say this man should not have been knocked out of his wheelchair. ( which he doesn’t always use, but sometimes uses his own two legs), but by the same token, the man in the wheelchair has been harassing and menacing the people on that block consistently and constantly with total disregard for people’s feelings or safety. Add to that McLeod’s nasty responses when asked to move and move his dogs. The… Read more »
If I’m not mistaken this is the first time we see the vaad hakohol’s name signed on something since their being elected.
Out of all the crime in CH the one time they show up is this??
that’s so true
Yep. This is messed up. The blacks attack us day and night. Why aren’t we ralling and protesting when those incidents happen EVERY DAY
If the story was the other way around, that a Chabad man on a wheelchair was provoking his neighbors for a long while until one time he’s got flipped off his wheelchair…. Would the headlines be the same? Or without the Jewish leaders come out and say “Jews provoking neighbors”?
Are you going to STOP the neighbor with the dogs??????
I walked by and heard them yelling “NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE” multiple times. The perpetrator was arrested and is being charged. Why cant we just have peace??
This is so crazy🤣
Our “leaders” threw our community under the bus. They know very well that the guy in the wheelchair has lets his dogs loose on Jewish families multiple times over the past few months and the police refused to intervene.
The confrontation last week was a culmination of these events, included in the day when the guy cut off the Jewish family and let his dogs near their young girls.
If our “leaders” wont stand up for us, who needs them?!
Yep. Kick them out. Time for new ones who want the best for us and our children
Please don’t promote this nonsense when we all know the intention of this “rally” was to stoke hatred against Jews by Al Sharpton 2.0.
Sad that Kabakov is being offered up as a Korbon Pesach.
What they are doing to him, he has done in the past to fellow Yidden [who didn’t agree with his ‘yellow’ opinions]
What about condemning the guy who lets two German shepherds run without leashes scaring kids and adults? Isn’t it illegal to have dogs run without a leash? Why does the fact that he’s in a wheelchair need to be mentioned? If he wants inclusion in society then there’s no need to keep mentioning his disability. He’s clearly able to harass and intimidate people from his wheelchair.
and he doesn’t look like he is even disabled according to the video.
So someone can harass you and send dogs after you scream at your kids and block you from your house and your never allowed to defend yourself just because he’s in a wheel chair
Because he’s in a wheelchair _and has magic protective skin color_. The idea seems to be that certain races aren’t responsible for their actions and reactions (see also Karmelo Anthony), while others are.
Maybe it’s preferable to have a riot than to condemn an action.
I think you’re trying to defend the ch leaders action to calm things down to appease the crowd to prevent a riot
Where can I find full video of altercation not Just where he punched him?
Let’s not pretend that this was a positive and unifying event when it was actually exactly the opposite and very clearly intended to attack Jews which is why it was held opposite 770.
I am sure it is unlawful to walk around NYC with unleashed dogs. They both are in the wrong. One wrong doesn’t allow one to commit assault…..
This has nothing to do with Jewish or black or what have you not… everyone has to calm down.,..and crown heights residents suck it up this is NYC with liberal mayor and POLS…. quality of life laws ARE NOT enforced…period end of story
If he is really disabled, why is he not strapped into his wheelchair, he would not have fallen out.
And if he doesn’t live in the neighborhood, call the police anytime he bothers you.
Sorry, but I can only imagine what the Jewish reaction would have been in Williamsburg, Boro Park etc, if this event has occurred there. I think that the Jewish leaders there would have not been so self-debasing, so weak-kneed, so lacking in self-confidence, so conciliatory even to their own detriment. Were the Jewish concerns regarding the ‘victim’s’ behaviour ever voiced and addressed? His obvious disregard & disrespect for his neighbours? His unleashed dogs and his unwillingness to cooperate with his neighbours’ requests that he rein in his dangerous and fearful animals? Why are those very valid and serious concerns not… Read more »
Shame on the leaders of the CH community. Yes, what Kabakov did wasn’t the right move, maybe, but you can clearly see from the videos and from what people who live on that street said that he was harassing people with his dogs and intentionally blocked the entrance for Kabakov and his daughters. But nobody ain’t doing anything about that. The fact that the man is in a wheelchair doesn’t mean he is allowed to do whatever he wants. And imagine your kids would be scared and frightened, what would you do?
The video i saw showed Kabakow walking with 2 daughters minding his own business. The man in the wheelchair came onto the side from between 2 parked cars, exactly where Kabakow was innocently walking.
They are making it sound like the man in the wheelchair was attacked by random. No that’s not what happened the mans dogs where frightening the kids and he refused to go away. I’m obviously not saying what the yid did was right but to say this man was attacked by random is showing you don’t have the story
if the story was reversed the jews would not come out to protest like the blacks
There needs to be a counter rally in support for Kubakov defending children and himself from a violent black man with violent dogs! Fight back!
Don’t be stupid. Thanks.
If this becomes a court case, I think the Community Council should fund Mr. Kubakov’s legal fees. Furthermore, I sincerely hope that the judge would be smart enough to understand that s/he must find a way to have both mcLead’s and Kubakov’s misdeeds cancel each other out, end of story, or the judge may very well become the catalyst leading to a VERY serious pow-wow, chas v’shalom.
P.S. Why is this peaceful(?) fellow being allowed to let his dogs (German Shepherds, no less) roam the streets unleashed? That is an indisputable violation of the law with no excuses allowed.
