Marking the six-month anniversary of the horrific terror attacks in Mumbai, which destroyed the Chabad House and killed Rabbi Gabi and Rivky Holtzberg, Chabad of Greenwich will host Rabbi Avraham Berkowitz, director of the Chabad of Mumbai Relief Fund this Saturday, May 16, at the Chabad Center, 75 Mason St.
Over the last half year Chabad of Mumbai has been an inspiration to the world, by showing resilience and courage in the face of unspeakable evil.
A temporary Chabad house was set up immediately and The Chabad Mumbai Fund is leading a global campaign to rebuild a permanent Chabad House in Mumbai.
For the last decade Mr. Berkowitz has served as the executive director of the Federation of Jewish Communities in the former Soviet Union.
Following the tragic murders of the Holtzbergs, Chabad headquarters appointed him to lead the global effort to secure lifetime support for their orphan son, two-year-old Moishe Holtzberg and rebuild the Chabad House.
Mr. Berkowitz is an engaging and dynamic speaker, who is coming to Greenwich from Mumbai to inspire us with the story of the recovery and rebuilding of a Jewish Center that captured the hearts of millions of men and women world over.
Mr. Berkowitz will address the community during the Kiddush luncheon at Chabad Center, 75 Mason St. at 12:45 p.m. The event is open to the public. For information, call Mr. Deren at 536-8678.
