Beis Din of Crown Heights published a revised version of their "laws for summer months," emphasizing the importance of tznius. Full Story
A woman should wear a long robe in the pool area in the presence of a non-Jewish male lifeguard: Refer to Igros Moshe E.H. 4:62:1, Oz Nedberu 12:44, V’yan Dovid 2:184, Halichos Bas Yisroel 7:18.
שו”ת אגרות משה חלק ז Even HaEzer s. 62: Even by women, Igros Moshe says “to be stringent” and not swim with a male lifeguard (she is technically not doing anything wrong, and he is “busy with his work”). This is a CHUMRAH and not m’ikar hadin!
See http://hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=14678&st=&pgnum=119
Iggros Moshe (Choshen Mishpat Vol. 2, no. 47), though permitting their killing, writes that where possible, it is better to kill insects and rodents by indirect means (setting a trap, rather than killing by hand). The reason for this is so that a person should not become accustomed to acts of cruelty, which are liable to influence his inner nature.
Need an answer: When going fishing, setting up the hook and bait, are you allowed to take a live worm and put a fishing hook through it – is it tzar baalei chayim??
Clarification:
There is a dispute among poskin if Tzar Baalei Chayim applies to fish. Examples: SHU”T Mishanh Halachos(חלק ו’ סימן רט”ו) and others says yes, SHU”T(Siach Yitchok(יור”ד סימן שפ”ז) and SHU”T Pikudas Elezer(סימן ס”ז) and Beis Yehudah(ביור”ד סימן י”ג) says no.
Therefore, catching and killing the fish JUST FOR SPORT may be forbidden as Tzar Baalei Chayim AND Baal Tashchis.

You sound like an am ha’aretz! Actually, correction, an apikorres!
Huh???
If there is “no” heter for a male lifeguard watching female swimmers or vice versa, then how can there be a heter in extremely pressing circumstances???
Is there a heter to eat treif in extremely pressing circumstances??? (And swimming is not an activity required to keep someone alive!).
Sad to say, but that is the case.
sounds like thought control. to #19 that is obvious. to#20 could you please give some examples.
Rabbi Braun (NOT EXCLUDING ANY ONE ELSE), is available for Shielos 24 / 6, by e-mail, phone, street and shull.
And of course on Shabbos he is available 1 / 12 in shull or on the street
The Rov (AGAIN!!!NOT EXCLUDING ANY ONE ELSE), is a tremendous asset to our shchunah,
Make use of it, as so many already do.
if we’re not all in Eretz Yisroel with Moshiach, c”v, please
publicize the pamphlrt earlier in the season.
Three types:
1. Those who already care and appreciate the importance of Tznius (dont need the pamphlet)
2. Those who’se minds are too closed to even re-evaluating the benefits to their family etc of Tznius
3. Then there are those who are open-minded, but can use an extra gentle boost of encouragement and reminders, as to the goodies Hashem promises for a Machaneh who is Tznius, (as Chazal/The-Rebbeh say it’ll bring benefit and blessings to their family and general community)
its this last group, that benefits the most from informative positive reminders, (i know i’m from this group)
i know personally, mothers who have sygnificantly improved their Tznius after realizing the connections between Tznius and many segulos (chazal link it too) positive and R”L the opposite it is true that there are those who dont seem to care about the impact their dress has on the protection of the collective, yet there are many who have a heart, and are very decent ppl, who make a special effort for the benefit of their children and safety of their general community! i have sooo much awe and respect for those who clearly care about dressing well, and make the… Read more »
I guess people need to be told what to do.
If I catch a carp or herring, why is there a debate if I can kill it immediately? Is it really better to let them flop around in a bucket for several hours till the die?
would you say “kosher” will be kept by girls who want to. And the rest don’t care about a pamphlet?
Or maybe “Shabbos” or “Safety”.
Problem is you and so many other undereducated Jews think that Tznius is the unloved step child who can be tossed away at whim.
And you are all wrong. Because if a girl CV”S choses to NOT be tznius, then you CAN’T even trust the KASHRUS of her food either! That’s the halacha. Go Learn!
Please advise brocho.
Thank you
Very informative and practical.
Will be kept by girls who want to. And the rest don’t care about a pamphlet
I think the idea is as follows:
1. Once a boy passes bar-mitzvah age, then he’s not allowed to be with a girl older than 3.
2. Once a girl passes bas-mitzvah age, then she’s not allowed to be a boys older than 9.
3. If the boy is under bar mitzvah AND the girl is under bas mitzvah, then there’s no yichud.
you dont know what you are talking about
the first part is talking about the issur of the girl the second part is the isser of the boy (a boy and girl under bar and bas mitzva are not chiev in miztvos)
Let’s put it in the form of a table. The following cases are allowed:
Girl 0-120 and boy 0-8
Girl 0-2 and boy 0-120
Girl 3-11 and boy 9-12
and the following are forbidden:
Girl 12-120 and boy 9-120 (sentence 1)
Girl 3-120 and boy 13-120 (sentence 2)
Your case is covered by sentence 2 (the girl is below bas mitzvah but the boy is above bar mitzvah), and so is forbidden.
sorry, i don’t understand part about swimming…
practical and interesting info. thank you!
Your qustion is legit., but why Chepe….
Thank you R Braun for your dedication to the CH community and for reminding and being mezaceh so many Yidden about the importance of hidur mitzvah
Very Nice! Thank you for all these reminders!
thank you for publishing this, it is extremely helpful!
with all due respect to the rabonim
in section how to travel rule#3
laws of yichud
they are contradictory.. and to tellme they quote the shulachan oruch is not the answer ..
this is suppose to be a practical book
so if a girl of the age of 11 allowed to remain with a boy the age of 14
according to the first part yes and according to the second part no
A great example of Rabboim that care about the community and provide them their needs.
The Halochos of telling a goy to do a melocho on Shabbos, needs reinforcement in our community, unfortunately.
this was out earlier not most of the way through the summer.
