A Chabad delegation visited the Shiva home of Elyakim Rubinstein, Vice President of the Supreme Court of Israel, who is mourning the death of his daughter.
The delegation was led by Rabbi Yitzchok Yehuda Yaroslavsly, head of the Chabad Rabbinical Court of Israel, on behalf of Agudas Chassidei Chabad of Israel.
Upon their entrance, Justice Rubinstein stood up and remained standing during their conversation, expressing his long friendship with the Chabad movement.
The rabbis comforted him on the tragic loss of his daughter, Sari Rubinstein-Mandel, a consultant for Israel’s Foreign Ministry. Present was Rabbi Tamir Kastiel, Director of Chabad in Jerusalem’s Katamon area, where Mrs. Mandel lived.
Justice Rubinstein warmly thanked them for the visit and has expressed his admiration for the Rebbe whom he met a couple of times, including a publicized encounter on 14 Cheshvan 5750.
Rubinstein served as the secretary of Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir‘s government and heard from the Rebbe about the need for Israel to remain strong despite international pressure.
Speaking to his visitors on Sunday, Rubinstein noted that Shamir sent him to the Rebbe “about another topic of no less importance.”
“The topic was conversion and a solution we came up for the problematic law of ‘Mihu Yehudi’ (who is a Jew) which was of great concern to the Rebbe,” he said.
“But the moment I brought up the topic, the Rebbe told me the following words: “What’s done is done.” And from there the conversation moved to a different topic.”
