Rabbi Yitzchok Dov Lieberman, a Chabad chossid and longtime educator and chazan, passed away on Thursday, 3 Nissan 5784.
He was 69.
He was born in Bnei Brak on the 14th of Cheshvan, 5715, to R’ Shmuel Chanoch and Esther Liberman, Ashlag Chassidim. As a bochur in yeshiva, he met the Lubavitcher Rabbi Yonatan Burgan, who influenced him to study the Alter Rebbe’s Tanya.
After three years, he studied at Yeshivas Torat Emes Chabad in Jerusalem and became a Chabad chossid.
In his youth, he wrote many letters to the Rebbe and finally met the Rebbe in person when he went for the Kvutza year in 5734 at the Central Tomchei Tmimim Yeshiva in 770.
When he went into Yechidus ahead of his birthday on the 4th of Cheshvan, the Rebbe asked several times for the date of his birthday until he told Lieberman to verify the date.
The next day, he called his family, and it turned out that his birthday was actually on the 14th of Cheshvan. It appears that in the hospital’s registration, the letter Yud was written on the line of the chart on the document and that his Bar Mitzvah was celebrated on the wrong date.
On the 24th of Elul, 5738, Lieberman married his wife, Sarah Har-Gil, and they settled in the Kfar Chabad village, where he began to educate children in their formative years. He served as a school teacher for about 40 years.
Lieberman also served as a chazan at the large Beis Menachem shul, primarily during the yomim nora’im. He often led the singing at the Second Hakafos dancing after Simchas Torah.
He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
The levaya was held in Israel on Friday morning.
Baruch Dayan Haemes.
