Rabbi Yisroel Meir Altein, sent to Pittsburgh more than 60 years ago by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, passed away on Shabbos.
He taught for many years at Yeshiva Schools, and was the Mashpia of the local Lubavitch community.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel, and children, Chana Stein – Oak Park, MI; Tzerel Backman – Pittsburgh, PA; Mendel Altein – Montreal; Yossi Altein – Crown Heights; Perl Namdar – Crown Heights and Malya Teitelbaum – Montreal.
The funeral procession will pass by Yeshiva Schools/Lubavitch Center in Pittsburgh on Sunday, at 1:00 pm with a graveside service at Homewood Cemetery.

Someone mentioned that Rabbi Altein really did not want to have any part of Olam Hazeh more than absolutly minimum necessary. He and his family are excellent examples on how to live without updating the Gashmius in their homes and lives. They never waste a single thing ! If the clothing, appliances, floors, rooms, and everything else works, then they are happy with it !
