Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael (Yanky/Jack) HaKohen Pfeffer, a Rabbi and teacher in Brooklyn, passed away on Shabbos, the first day of Pesach.
He was 93.
Rabbi Pfeffer was a rabbi, a chazan, and a teacher. He was a great traveler to and lover of Eretz Yisrael, and the President of The Jewish Court Employees Association in Brooklyn while working there.
He was the brother of Rabbi Tzvi (Hershel) HaKohen Pfeffer, the Frierdiker Rebbe’s Shliach to Pittsburgh, PA.
He passed away at Bedford Center in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
The levaya took place on Monday, 1st Day Chol HaMoed Pesach, at Old Montefiore Cemetery, Queens.
Rabbi Hershel Pfeffer will be sitting shiva at the Lefkowitz family residence at 736 Lefferts Avenue, Crown Heights, Brooklyn from the Sunday immediately after Yom Tov until he returns to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. He then will sit shiva in Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh until Friday mid-morning, receiving people in Lubavitch Center Beis Yechezkel after ma’ariv.
