Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda Weiser, from the first Shluchim of the Rebbe and an influential figure in the Chabad-Lubavitch community of Vienna, Austria, passed away on Tuesday, 10 Teves, 5786.
He was 73 and passed away following an extended illness.
Rabbi Weiser merited in his youth to study under Rabbi Shlomo Chaim Kesselman OBM in Kfar Chabad. After his marriage to the daughter of the Rov of Vienna, he settled there and became an expert shochet.
He was among the founders and builders of the Chabad community in the city. Later, when the Chabad Shliach, Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak Biderman, arrived to the city, Rabbi Weiser stood by his side to assist in establishing the institutions and Chabad Centers.
Rabbi Weiser, a Chassid and Mekushar to the Rebbe, was the first Chassid to print the Tanya in Vienna in 5738, taking on the Mivtza at the instruction of the Rebbe. An unassuming man, he strived to remain outside the spotlight, doing his work without looking for recognition.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Chana Weiser, and their children: Mrs. Rivka Schwartz – Eretz Yisroel, Mrs. Miriam Loew – New York, Rabbi Yechiel Weiser – Crown Heights, Rabbi Shaul Weiser – Crown Heights, Aizik Weiser – Vienna, Austria, Mrs. Dina Perlstein – Montreal, Canada, Mrs. Leah Sosover – Monsey, NY, Mrs. Sara Alevsky – Cleveland, OH, Mrs. Rochel Lustig – Monsey, NY, Rabbi Shlomo Yosef Weiser – Crown Heights, Mrs. Mushka Pinson – Berlin, Germany, Rabbi Chaim Weiser – Crown Heights, and Rabbi Menachem Mendel Weiser – Antwerp, Belgium.
The Levaya will take place today in Vienna and continue to burial at Har Hazeisim in Eretz Yisroel.

What’s years did he learn by Reb Shlomo Chaim?
R‘ Shlomo Chaim passed away in תשלא he was probably learned there in the late Khofs early lameds
כח כט ל
For several years he was basically the Rebbe’s man in Austria until he was later joined by yblt”a Rav Yankel Biderman.
Among his achievements was that he was highly respected for the shiurim that he gave to the young people in town, and that helped pave the way for a full time shliach to move to Austria.
Today, Chabad in Austria is a powerhouse of activities- and thus, he should be remembered as a pioneer who laid the groundwork.
