Rabbi Yaakov G. Safranovitz, a beloved member of the Los Angeles community for over 40 years, passed away on Monday, Chof Zayin Menachem Av, 5780.
He was 80.
He was born in Jerusalem in 1940 to Yosef Dov and Fayge (Reinitz) Safranovitz. His father was instrumental in building mikvaos in Yerushalyim. He was killed in the war of Liberation in 1948 al kiddush Hashem. His mother was the daughter of R’ Yaakov Rainitz, a Talmid Chocham from Hungary.
Rabbi Safranovitz learned in Yeshivas Toras Emes in Yerushalayim. He later learned in 770 until the Rebbe told him to fly to Israel as his mother had a Shidduch for him.
Together with his wife, they were sent on Shlichus to Kiryat Gat, Taanach, and then to Yerushalayim. Later he was sent to Los Angeles, California.
Rabbi Safranovitz was known as a great Torah scholar and Sofer.
He merited to have a great-grandchild named after him just a few hours after his passing.
He is survived by his wife Tzipporah, and children, Levi Safranovitz (Los Angeles), Zevi Safranovitz (St. Louis), Esther Shabtay (Sherman Oaks, CA) and Yossi Safranovitz (Los Angeles), grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers Moishe and Avrohom Safranovitz, both from Bnei Brak.
He was predeceased by his daughter Bella Wax and his sisters Batya Minsky and Sara Tapuchi.
The Levaya will be today, in the Los Angeles Kollel at 5:30pm, 444 N La Brea Blvd.

He was a great man to our community in Los Angeles. He will be missed. I always remember him as an excellent Sofer.
