Chabad of Mineola launches the Birkat Hachamah Time Capsule to document today’s Jewish life.
On April 8, 2009, the eve of Passover, Jews around the world will rise early, gaze at the sun and recite the least-frequently-recited blessing in Judaism: Birkat Hachamah, the blessing on the sun.
In honor of this once in 28 years event, Rabbi Anchelle Perl, director of the Chabad of Mineola, will bury a special Time Capsule at the cornerstone of his synagogue, scheduled immediately following the Birkat Hachamah Assembly.
The event starts at 7:45am. The Shul is located at 261 Willis Ave, Mineola NY.
“The time capsule will document for posterity the individual thoughts, perspectives, comments, personal histories, on how we think 2009 will be remembered in Jewish history,” Perl said.
The time capsule will be opened in 28 years on April 8, 2037 at the next scheduled Birkat HaChamah.
“Think of a time capsule as a message in a bottle sent forward in time to a future self — messages in the capsule tell our “tomorrow self” what we think is important today.
“We invite everyone to also send a letter, a snapshot, or even a DVD or memory stick of a worthy message to the world to be read in 28 years from now.
It might include a family history, the hopes and dreams from grandchildren or a particular challenge to one’s family or community.”
All those attending the April 8 event will sign a special document to be included in this historic Jewish Time Capsule. Mail in deadline April 5.

I believe it was the Lelover who stated that, when Moshiach comes, the present time of golus will be analyzed just as we presently study the Chamisha Chumshei Torah nowadays.
Stop worrying…the time capsule will be opened IYH in Yerushalayim where all Shuls will assemble next to the Bes Hamigdash. The giluim of leosid lovoi are based on our avodah of today!!
com’on some hope and trust in the Rebbe’ s words! The Rebbe promised moshiachs coming and we are the last generation of galus! we are holding erev shabbos!!! we are at the threshold of Moshiach!
amazing, you allways come up with these fantastic novel ideas
i think its a great idea
Rabbi Perl always with his innovative ideas – some cute, some corny but all productive
Hatzlacha rabbi
The opening of the time capsule will certainly take place in Yerushalayim where all the Shuls will gather. The giluim of the future are based on our avodah today!!
Cute idea! But I am pretty sure that if chas v’sholom Moshiach doesn’t come soon I won’t be around when they dig it up!
Rabbi Perl,
This is a fun idea to attract your local community. As far as COL goes, I should hope we believe that in 28 years we will be in Yerushalaim with Moshiach. We won’t need/want to look back, or come to Mineola to find out what we thought 28 years previous.
