Rabbi Taub Completes Shaar HaBitachon

After Lag B’Omer, at the height of the Corona lockdown, Rabbi Shais Taub decided to respond to these trying times by launching a daily text-based class on Shaar HaBitachon from Rabenu Bachaye’s Chovos HaLevavos. “The Rebbe repeatedly encouraged the study of Shaar HaBitachon,” says Taub. “I am very grateful to have been able to have taken this journey together with my online students.”

Hundreds of participants joined nightly live Zoom meetings hosted by Chabad of the Five Towns where Taub serves as permanent scholar-in-residence as well as thousands more who viewed replays of the class on Youtube, TorahAnytime.com, Chayenu’s gateoftrust.org, and Taub’s own website SoulWords.org.

The complete study took months and totaled 45 classes in the end plus a 46th episode which served as a siyum celebration. The entire archive can be found at SoulWords.org/trust.

This is a great class. Even though I was busy with the kids many days I would put on the shiur while I was preparing lunch. I found the class very calming inspiring and upbeat.

I loved the classes. Very clear and liberating. Bitachon doesn’t mean you have to not care or try. Rather it means let go of feeling you are a failure, you are guilty for things not happening as accepted and expected. I always felt having Bitachon is a level I just can’t reach. But after going through learning / listening to your classes at least I know I could feel it not just know of Bitachon. Thank you for allowing me to see that even if it’s one percent of bitachon that speaks to me, I too can act on it.

Honestly the part that spoke to me most from your classes vs others I have heard on the topic is the fact that every time you said something painful or hard to accept you made it very clear to never tell someone else going through tough times these words even if it’s the truth because one has to listen have empathy or at least sympathy to someone struggling. (In my case I also felt like everyone always has an answer what I should do but never cares when I do what they say and it didn’t workout. Great at giving advice or musar but not a lot of seeing Hashem in the picture.) Knowing and understanding that nothing happens that Hashem doesn’t want / plan to happen is liberating, fundamental and powerful.

I am holding at class twelve (a busy mother). The ideas aren’t completely new to me but anyways, step by step, these classes are changing the way I accept life challenges.

The Shaar Habitachon classes gave me the chance to study this important work and helped strengthen my Emunah at this challenging time. Rabbi Shais Taub’s relaxed yet engaging manner of teaching, with stories and metaphors plenty, helped make this study enjoyable and easy to understand.

I made a hachlata a ways back to learn Shaar Habitachon, but it never felt very motivating to sit alone & learn it. So for starters, listening to the classes has been a great way to learn the material. ועוד והוא העיקר, the classes are very relatable and clear, and really explain how working towards Bitachon is the only way to live.
