Rabbi Sholom Leib Aisenbach, an elder respected Chossid from the Montreal Chabad community, passed away on Shabbos, 21 Elul, 5782.
He was 84.
He was born in 1938 to his father R’ Shimon Bentzion and Chana Rechyl Aisenbach (nee Halperin), a descendant of the Chabad Rebbeim.
As a young boy, he learned in Toras Emes Yeshiva in Jerusalem, and later in Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Kfar Chabad. As a student in Yeshiva he gave a Tanya Shiur in the Yeshivat Hadarom, arranged by Rabbi Yekusiel Green, who later became a Chabad Chossid.
R’ Sholom Leib never missed an opportunity to spread Chassidus and always took the lead in speaking and teaching others. In 5724 he married his wife, Rivkah Raizel, daughter of R’ Moishe Eliyahu Gerlitzky, the Frierdiker Rebbe’s Shliach and one of the founders of the Chabad community and Chabad mosdos in Montreal, Canada.
After their wedding, the couple flew to Israel for a few of the Sheva Brachos so that his mother, who had not traveled for the wedding, could join. In a Yechidus before his wedding, the Rebbe instructed the couple that their last Sheva Brachos be held in a Yeshiva, which they did in the Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Kfar Chabad. This became a custom of Chabad couples from then on, to have the final Sheva Brachos in a Yeshiva.
The couple settled in Montreal, where R’ Sholom Leib taught for many years in the Chabad mosdos, including Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch – Rabbinical College of Canada, and Bais Chaya Mushka Seminary of Montreal. He was one of the respected Chassidim in the community, as well as a Mashpia.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Rivka Aisenbach, and children and their children Mrs. Shterni Gruzman – Vienna, Austria; Mrs. Yaffie Simpson – Crown Heights; Rabbi Shimon Aisenbach – Toronto, Ontario; Mrs. Leah Gansburg – Crown Heights; Mrs. Chaya Goldberg – Toronto, Ontario; Rabbi Yosef Aisenbach – Litchfield, Connecticut; Mendy Aisenbach – Toronto, Ontario; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his brother Rabbi Avrohom Eisenbach of Jerusalem and sister Mrs. Ahuva Rosenvasser of Bnei Brak.
He was predeceased by his brothers Rabbi Yitzchok Tzvi Eisenbach and Rabbi Chananya Yosef Eisenbach OBM, an outstanding gaon and Rosh Yeshiva.

Rabbi Aisenbach was my 1st Gemora teacher when I came as a young boy from California to Montreal. I had never learned Gemora before, nor did I know any Yiddish; so going into Rabbi Aisenbach’s class was certainly like being thrown into the deep end of the pool. To his credit, he pushed me to surpass what I thought were my limits, and I ended the year as one of the top students in the class, a feat that I would have thought impossible at the beginning of the year. To this day, I still model some of his methods… Read more »

I’ll never forget how Rabbi Aisenbach and his wife hosted us while we were in seminary for a shabbos meal. There were just 2/3 of us who never had anywhere to go and they had us over and it wasn’t like we were there as guests to listen, he truly wanted us to share and engage. A true mechanech, wether we were in his classroom or his home, he valued our opinions.
