Today, Tisha b’Av, the Lubavitch community in London and beyond has been plunged into even deeper mourning with the sudden, and untimely, passing of Rabbi Shimon Potash, a respected teacher and member of the Stamford Hill community.
He was 47.
Born in London in 1973, Shimon studied at the Lubavitch Junior Boys’ School and Mechinah, Yeshivas Lubavitch Manchester and Oholei Torah New York, before going on Shlichus to Sydney, Australia and completing Semicha.
Shortly after Shimon got married, he and his wife Emmanuelle went on Shlichus to Tunisia for several years before settling in London.
Shimon was a devoted husband, father, son and brother to his family, and a respected teacher and member of the Stamford Hill community. He led Children’s Services and Youth Activities, and worked with Lubavitch Foundation and the school, as well as other Tzorchei Tzibbur including his regular Kriyas HaTorah at Beis Lubavitch.
Shimon will be fondly remembered for his gentle manner and soft voice, his intelligent wit and infectious laugh. His unending compassion and sensitivity towards others will be his community’s most cherished memory of all.
He is survived by his wife, Emmanuelle, and their children Menachem Mendel, Chaya Mushka, Chaim, Levi Yischok, Nosson, and Yehuda.
He is also survived by his parents, Rabbi and Mrs. Ephraim and Toebe Potash and siblings, Fradel Laine – Panama, Gedalia Potash – San Francisco, CA, Shoshi Laufer – Rhode Island, Yossi Potash – London, UK, Levi Potash – San Francisco, CA, Yankel Potash – Manchester, UK and Nosson Potash – San Francisco, CA.
And his mother-in-law, Mrs. Habib, in Nice, France.

Boruch Dayan Ha’emes – HaRav HaTomim, Shimon (A”H) ben HaRav Ephraim Zalman.
He was a special person with a beautiful chassidishe family.
May Hashem shower brochas upon them and help them through this time.
He was such a kind and caring person.
This is incredibly sad! Shimon was soft spoken, had a gentle tone and a pure נשמה. Rebbe, Lubavitch, Chassidus was all he cared about. He lived it in the most unassuming way – he knew when to talk and more importantly when to listen. He will be missed אוי מה היה לנו

He was a giant in humbleness and genuity. Such a special person whom always showed a smile. He’ll always be missed. His dedication at the Shabbos morning children Minyonim saw no bounds and related to the children with remarkable empathy and care. We really love you R’ Shimon. May you continue to see tremendous Nachas from your very special children.
