Rabbi Rafael Lapidus, a prominent Chabad Shliach in Argentina who taught and brought many closer to Yiddishkeit, passed away this week.
He was 69.
Rabbi Lapidus directed the Iarjo Jabad Lavalle center in Buenos Aires, which includes a shul, classes on Torah and Chassidus, and held many programs.
Community member Gavriel Amar said in brief remarks at the funeral that Rabbi Lapidus had a love for Torah and was able to touch people’s lives with his love and care.
“Every person who walked through this door, whether they were concerned with something at work or personal, were always treated with love and importance,” Amar said. “Rabbi Lapidus was an example for everyone.”
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Chaya Leah Lapidus, their children Mrs. Chana Ita Teitelbaum – Sherman Oaks, California; Mrs. Devorah Kozlovsky – Miami, Florida; R’ Shalom Lapidus – Buenos Aires, Argentina; grandchildren.
He is survived by his siblings R’ Yosef Lapidus – Long Island, NY; R’ Daniel Lapidus – Brooklyn, NY; R’ Chaim Eliezer Lapidus, R’ Reuven Lapidus, R’ Issar Lapidus, all of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and sister Mrs. Ruthi Weiss – Sherman Oaks, California.

I recall him (from decades ago) to be an exceptionally warm, kind, soft, loving, big gentleman. Eyes and smile that lit up a room. The universe was blessed to have him while we did, and we have lost a special person. May his family be warmed by memories of him.

Rabbi Rafael Lapidus’ accomplishments were astonishing, because of his sensitivity, sincerity, and endearing way of connecting to all fellow Jews. He took a small, European, type shul in Buenos Aires that could have easily disappeared, and infused it with Achdus, Yiras Shamayim, and the Rebbe’s Torah. HIs heart and his shul, was alway opened to the POOR and NEEDY, who so often are overlooked. He distributed food, housing, and money to those in need!
