Israel’s Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed met on Tuesday in Berlin, their first working meeting since the 2 Middle Eastern countries signed the Abraham Accords.
The meeting was hosted by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas as both Israel and the United Arab Emirates officials establish diplomatic and economic relations.
The meeting began with a visit to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, which was also attended by Rabbi Yehuda Teichtal, Rabbi of Berlin, who experienced the historic meeting of the three foreign ministers at close range and also spoke to them individually.
The conversation between Minister Ashkenazi and Rabbi Teichtal followed on from their last conversation in the “diversity of Jewish life in Germany and the very special Connection to Israel.”
In his talks with Minister bin Zayed, Rabbi Teichtal discussed the German-Jewish past in view of the meeting place and how dynamic Jewish life in Germany is now and how this is being taken into account with the construction of the Jewish Campus in Berlin.
The Emirati Minister talked about Jewish life in the United Arab Emirates. Rabbi Teichtal praised the important Chabad work of Rabbi Levi Duchman in Dubai and Abu Dhabi which most recently included building a communal sukkah and providing kosher meals to visitors.
To continue the interesting conversation, the minister invited Rabbi Teichtal to visit Dubai.
