Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba, member of the Crown Heights Beis Din and head of its CHK kosher supervision, traveled this past week to the corn state of Iowa to inspect Agri Star Meat and Poultry, LLC.
He was greeted by Rabbi Chaim Eliezer Meiselish, a resident of Postville who provides kosher certification to the meat packing plant (along with the OU, Tartikov Beth Din and CHK).
The tour’s purpose was to learn about the new systems placed in the slaughterhouse’s facilities by the Canadian owner Heshy Friedman to upkeep the highest kashrus standards possible.
Rabbi Osdoba was accompanied by his son Rabbi Zalman Osdoba who regularly visits the plant with Rabbi Shlomo Segal, a Dayan in the Crown Heights Badatz.
Agri Star, formerly known as Agriprocessors, founded by Aaron Rubashkin, prides itself with a full production process that is controlled and monitored – from beginning to end – exclusively by Agri Star personnel, resulting in products that “are more wholesome and superior tasting.”
And unlike other processing companies, Agri Star said it is the only kosher processor in the USA to utilize the benifits of modern European Air Chill Technology for it poultry line, eliminating water absorption and preventing cross contamination.
The “Shor Habor” label is Lubavitch shechita and under the CHK.
