Rabbi Meyer Zajac, a Lubavitcher chossid and philanthropist in Brazil who supported Torah and Chassidus causes around the world, passed away on Friday, 3 Sivan 5781.
He was 89.
He was born in Poland to R’ Simcha Yitzchok and Chava Neche Zajac (pronounced Zay-entz) and was married in 5714 to Zissel Brawer.
He merited to be in Yechidus with the Frierdiker Rebbe and has been instructed by the Rebbe not to settle in the United States but in Brazil. “You need to return to Brazil,” the Rebbe said. “Your place is is Brazil.”
Rabbi Zajac founded Escola Beit Yaacov, a Jewish girls school in S. Paulo, at the instruction of the Rebbe. He school serves all frum Jewish communities there and was supported by the Satmar Rebbe R’ Yoel Teitelbaum.
He merited to be from the first people to sponsor the printing of the Likkutei Sichos of the Rebbe and received blessings from the Rebbe each year for the merit of many learning from them.
Other institutions and causes he donated to were Yeshiva Lflagos Reuven in Jerusalem, the Litvish Yeshiva Lucerne in Switzerland, Chabad Mikvahs, Heichal Menachem in Boro Park, the Ohr Hachasidus publication and more.
He is survived by his wife Zissel and children, R’ Yisroel Efraim Menashe Zajac – S. Paulo, Brazil, R’ Yosef Moshe Zajac – S. Paulo, Brazil, Rechel Schapiro – Bnei Brak, Israel, and Lea Osdoba – Belle Harbor, NY, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings R’ Leibel Zajac, R’ Yisroel Zajac, Mrs. Toba Izaak of Brazil and Mrs. Perel Felberbaum of Israel.
He was predeceased by his siblings Mrs. Esther Lieberman and Rabbi Mordechai Zajac.
