Rabbi Menachem Mordechai Nissim, a long-time resident of Crown Heights who was a humble chossid and a talmid chacham, passed away on Friday, 2 Nissan 5780.
He was 69 and has been infected by coronavirus.
Having grown up in Israel, he came to New York in his youth to spend the kevutza year of learning at the Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch at 770 Eastern Parkway and basked in the light and the teachings of the Rebbe.
He remained in Crown Heights for the rest of his life, getting married and raising a family there. His lifelong pursuit was learning Torah with an emphasis on halacha. He was a member of a few kollels and was an address for halachic advice.
Rabbi Nissim would daven at the Chevra Shas shul during the weekdays and at the main shul of 770 on Shabbos.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Esther Nissim, and children Rabbi Yisroel Nissim – Greenpoint, NY; Mrs. Chanie Zohar – Crown Heights; Mrs. Devorie Lipszyc – Crown Heights; and grandchildren.
The levaya will take place on Friday, with the necessary health precautions. It will be passing 770 Eastern Parkway at 3:30 PM.

He was one of the kindest in CH. We should all learn from him and follow his ways. He always greeted everyone with a smile and just gave out good energy. He was lovely, his wife is lovely and his children are lovely….that’s hard to find these days. We were blessed to know him.

We were blessed to see R’ Nissim in action. On many mornings he would come to our building to pick up his grandson and take him to school. He had such pride and joy in his grandchildren and patience with them. He will be missed! May Hashem comfort the family..
Pure as gold —inside and out! Generous of heart and spirit!!
Lived as a chasid should —learning and always working on himself!
May his memory be a blessing to his family and klal Yisroel!
Does anyone realize this man was a true Tzadik. He translated Chaim Luzzato’s work Maamir Hageluah into English. Do you think its a co-incidence that Luzzato also died in a plague. This world lost a Baal chased. If anyone knows how to obtain his book, please let me know as it appears out of print
May his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
