President Donald Trump hosted a National Day of Prayer event at the White House on May 1 under bright sunny skies in the Rose Garden.
“We’re bringing religion back to our country,” Trump said during the event. “It’s a big deal.”
Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Senior Chabad Shliach in Washington, DC, and Executive Vice President of American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad), delivered a heartfelt prayer at the event. Addressing the gathering, Rabbi Shemtov said, “Please continue to give the President and his family strength and safety, and once all counsel is offered, the wisdom to discern what is right, to follow that course, and encourage others to do the same.”
Hundreds of faith leaders representing diverse religious backgrounds, including Christians, Jews, Muslims, and Hindus, among others, attended the event, which was held steps from the Oval Office. Also in attendance were many cabinet members and White House staff.
President Trump vowed that America will always be “one nation under God”, after 4 years of persecution against people of faith by the previous administration.
President Trump also signed an Executive Order establishing a presidential commission on religious liberty. The commission will be chaired by Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who came up with the idea according to Trump.
