Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar visited the HASC Summer Camp in the Catskill Mountains Sunday, run by the HASC organization which works throughout the year for children with special needs.
Rabbi Lazar was visiting the United States for Gimmel Tammuz, the Rebbe’s Yartzeit, together with a large group of Shluchim from Russia. He set aside some time during his trip for a brief visit to the camp.
Last minute arrangements were made by the askan Eli Rowe to provide a chopper for Rabbi Lazar to travel to the camp.
The tour of the camp was led by Rabbi Abe Eisner, chairman of the HASC board, Rabbi Shmiel Kahn, the camp’s director, and Rabbi Juda Mischel, camp executive director.
Rabbi Lazar was touched by the humanitarian and medical care provided by the camp for the severely and frail handicapped campers. He also delivered words of Chizuk to the staff before boarding the chopper back to JFK airport.
