Rabbi Yosef Feigelstock, Rov of the Chabad community in Argentina and a renowned posek, issued new halachic guidelines on how to observe Yom Kippur during the current Covid pandemic.
In a recent letter, Rabbi Feigelstock of Buenos Aires emphasized that fasting on the Jewish day of atonement must be done even if it causes one anguish.
But he did add that fasting is more important than davening with a minyan. Therefore, he instructed that one who is compromised should preferably daven at home.
He said that a patient who is in danger should consult with a rov ahead of time regarding the shiurim (measurements) of food and drink one can consume on Yom Kippur.
But if “someone feels dizzy, or can’t see (because) everything goes dark, he should immediately drink something sweet, without any measurements, and eat without any measurements until he feels better,” he said.
He concluded his letter with a prayer that Hashem hears all the davening and “give us a good and sweet year with proper health materially and spiritually.”
