Rabbi Dovid Dov Mishulovin, a Lubavitcher chossid who had self sacrifice for keeping Judaism alive behind the Iron Curtain, passed away on Monday night, 10th of Teves 5782.
He was 92.
He was born to his father, Rabbi Eliezer Mishulovin, and his mother, Mrs. Basya Mishulovin, as the eldest son, in 1929 in Vitebsk.
His parents moved to Samarkand when World War II started in 1939 while the Nazis bombed Vitebsk.
During his teenage years, most of the Chassidim left his hometown of Samarkand and the handful of Chassidim who remained flourished thanks to the reopening of the Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim, when he and a friend kept the learning of the Yeshiva alive under the guidance of Rabbi Eliyahu Levin of Paritch.
In 1953 he married Mrs. Fruma Sarah, the daughter of Rabbi Benzion Moshe Pil from Kharkov.
After his marriage he lived in the city of Dushanbe – the capital of Tajikistan for about two years. Chazzan Chaim Dovber Zalzman also lived there, and together they established a secret mikveh in the back wing of the Shul there. They later returned to their home in Samarkand.
In 1971, he and his family immigrated to Eretz Yisroel and settled in Nachlas Har Chabad – where his brother, Mashpia Rabbi Michael Misholovin, also lives to this day.
In Eretz Yisroel he occupied himself with Kiruv and with Jewish education, as a livelihood he would work in Sta”m mainly in the field of checking Tefillin.
In 5739, he emigrated to the United States, and moved on Shlichus to the city of Los Angeles under Head Shliach Rabbi Shlomo Cunin. There he served as a Chasidishe Melamed in the Cheder and Yeshivah Ohr Elchonon Chabad, and per the Rebbe’s request worked in Sta”m.
He survived by his children Benzion (Benny) Mishulovin (Los Angeles), Feiga Bisk (Toronto), Rivka Tewel (New York), Boruch Mishulovin (Crown Heights), Yosef Yitzchok (Yossi) Mishulovin, (Los Angeles), and Michoel Mishulovin (Moscow); grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers Rabbi Michoel Mishulovin (Nachalas Har Chabad, Israel), and Rabbi Itche Mishulovin (Crown Heights).
He was predeceased by his brother Rabbi Chaim Eliyohu Mishulovin (Kfar Chabad, Israel) and his wife Mrs. Sara Mishulovin last year.
Baruch Dayan Ha’emes – Dovid Dov Ben Eliezer
I would see him a lot when I was on shlichus in Ohr Elchonon just a few years ago. I once helped him walk from the Zal to his car. I asked him, “vos macht ir”. He responded, “nu, a por mitzvos, a sach avairos”. A taste of old chassidishe humility, people that don’t take themselves too seriously. I remember him telling us stories from the old country. One in particular about his teacher in cheder that was afraid he’d be drafted by the Russian army. The Rebbe Rashab blessed him, “there is nothing to worry about.” He was still… Read more »
What a Chossid, from the remainders of the old chadidishe generation from the shtetelach in Russia (he was born and raised in Vitebsk form before the war). There was so much to see in him. So much to learn from him. He had such an inner light and such inner strength and everything with such simplicity. What a loss. Oy.
May he be a מליץ יושר and speed up the geula, may it come now בחסד וברחמים now
Remember him also from yoec in la. Such a real eltere chossid.
He taught us chassidus in LA in the 80’s. Temimim’dik Eidelkiet Chassishkiet with a true Emes through n through. A Heilige Neshomo. BD”H
And always cherish the moments we shared
He was my Melamed for a few years…… Was a little boy then, didn’t fully appreciate it at the time. Years later when I grew up, it sunk in…. not so much the learning…. but the chassidishkeit, farimkeit that was embedded from having a true chassidishe yid being your melamed. Anytime we bumped into each other 25.. 35 years later … he always asked how I was…. my family… etc etc..to really know and care not just asking to make conversation.
