It’s alive in JETS—the Jewish Educational Trade School—where his vision continues to shape the next generation of Jewish leaders.

I was just a 14-year-old boy, arriving in California from a struggling school system in Montreal. My previous experiences with education had been rigid, discipline-heavy, and uninspired. Then, I met a true educator—someone who saw beyond the system’s limitations and into the potential of every student.

That transformative approach to education? It’s what JETS is all about. Rabbi Yaffe understood that true education wasn’t about control—it was about trust, self-confidence, and empowering students to take ownership of their own learning. That philosophy shaped my life, and it became the driving force behind JETS.

At JETS, we don’t just educate—we believe in our students. We instill self-worth, discipline, and real-world skills in a way that prepares young men for successful, impactful lives. Like Rabbi Yaffe did for us, we challenge students to rise to their potential by trusting them first. The honor system that transformed me as a student? It’s a core pillar of JETS. One of my most vivid memories was when our class had misbehaved, and instead of punishing us, we were challenged to study the first three chapters of Iggeres HaTeshuva in Tanya. The lesson? Growth comes from within. Real education isn’t about rules—it’s about responsibility. It’s this philosophy that lives and breathes within JETS.

JETS isn’t just another yeshiva. It’s a movement. It’s a revolution in Jewish education that understands that every student is a world unto himself. We don’t treat them like numbers; we treat them like future leaders. We cultivate confidence, respect, and purpose. We bridge the gap between tradition and the modern world, preparing students for success in business, life, and faith.
I remember discovering that our principal’s office bathroom was filled with books—because real leaders never stop learning. That’s what we strive for at JETS. Lifelong learning. Lifelong growth. Lifelong impact.

And so, as I stand here today, no longer that 14-year-old boy from Montreal but an educator, a leader, and someone privileged to shape the next generation, I realize the full measure of Rabbi Yaffe’s influence. He saw something in me before I could see it in myself. That belief, that trust, is the foundation upon which JETS stands today. Rabbi Yaffe’s wisdom, kindness, and revolutionary approach to education live on—not just in memory, but in action, in every student who walks through our doors, ready to become something greater.
