R’ Asher Zelig Gottlieb passed away this morning, Tuesday, Vov Nissan, after being infected with coronavirus.
He was 71.
R’ Asher Zelig, a longtime resident of Crown Heights, came to learn in Lubavitch in NY when he was 12 years old. He learned in Lubavitch Yeshiva on Bedford and Dean, followed by a year of Lubavitch Yeshiva in Newark, NJ followed by 7 years in 770.
After getting married and settling in Crown Heights, he was known for living with the Rebbe’s horaos in his everyday life. He was very careful to attend all the farbrengens of the Rebbe, being on the front line with all the Rebbes directives and mivtzoyim.
Every Sunday for 30 years, rain or shine, R Asher Zelig, together with 3 friends, went on Mivtzoyim to Coney Island Hospital to put Tefillin on the Jewish patients.
He is survived by his wife Chana Rivka (Bart) and children Zeldy Liberow, Colorado Springs, Co, Devorie Gansburg, Crown Heights, Malky Schmukler, League City, Texas, Dina Sasonkin, Crown Heights, Brocha Rendler, Crown Heights, Raizy Margolin, Cleveland, OH, Sari Gottlieb, Crown Heights, Mendy Gottlieb, Montreal and grandchildren Kah.
He was predeceased by his daughter Chaya Mushka A”H in 2009.
He is also survived by his brothers, Yankel Gottlieb, Crown Heights, Naftali Gottlieb, Crown Heights – please do not inform him of the passing, and Betzalel Gottlieb, Detroit.
The Levaya will take place Wednesday, Zayin Nissan, Passing by 770 at 9:55 am
Then passing by the house 456 Brooklyn Ave at 10 am
