R’ Yechezkel Lewintow, a longtime resident of Crown Heights, passed away on Friday, 29 Av, 5772 after a brief illness.
He was 86.
Born in Russia, R’ Lewintow lived on Crown Street for over 60 years after emigrating to the United States. He was a regular at the Rayim Ahuvim shul.
R’ Lewintow was known for his great love of learning, and in later years he learned in the Kollel Zekainim in Crown Heights.
“He was a tremendous baal chesed, and he was always feeding people,” a family friend told COLlive. “His hachnosas orchim was tremendous – his home was always open to all.”
His wife Fraida passed away 6 years ago, and he is survived by his son Yisroel Dovid.
The levaya will take place Sunday at 10:00 am at shomrei hadas chapel and passing by 770 at 10:45 am.

“Chatzkel Der Geller” as he was affectionately known, was the embodiement of a Baal-Shemsker-Yid in the plain and full sense of the word. Wonderful person. Always ready to do favour. Together with his late wife Frayda had an open house.

He used to frequent the bais medrash at 580 Crown st.
One could see that this chassidishe yid had a love for learning Torah.
