R’ Saidou Hagege, a longtime resident of Montreal, Canada, passed away on Tuesday, 14 Av, 5780.
R’ Hagege was one of the first Montreal Chabad House pioneer Baalei Teshuvas in 1977. He was known as a kind man and good friend, who always had good advice and listening ear for others.
“His contagious warmth for Judaism helped to bring many young adults closer to their heritage, and he would constantly encourage the people around him to increase in their service to Hashem,” said Rabbi David Cohen, Rabbi of Beth Menachem Zev Shul where R’ Hagege was a longtime congregant.
He would host Torah classes in his home regularly, and he loved gatherings and Farbrengens. He would constantly encourage the Shluchim to make classes and Farbrengens.
R’ Hagege always added a lively warmth to the gatherings he attended, always being the one to start a lively niggun, singing and clapping with vigor.
He was known for his special gift for tuning in to young children, entertaining them and laughing along with them.
“Only recently, while he was in the hospital, he encouraged the organizing of community gatherings and Melava Malkas, saying that ‘You have no idea how important it is,'” Rabbi Cohen said.
He is survived by his children, Amos Hagege, Florida, Dan Hagege, Montreal, Rivkah Mayer, Montreal, Sterna Edelman, Crown Heights and Tamara Hagege, Montreal.
The Levaya took place Wednesday in Montreal, and burial will be in Shikun Vatikin in Netanya, Israel on Friday morning.
The family is sitting shiva at 5188 Plamondon in Montreal.

I have very fond memories of this lovely chossid. He was a true believer in Moshiach’s imminent arrival, and always spoke optimistically about the future. He was the real deal.

It’s heartbreaking to see this news 🙁
It’s been years since I’ve seen the man, but he was a staple of my Montreal childhood. Just an all around sweet man. Sat at many a bull-shove and farbrengens together in Yeshiva.
