Harav Hachosid Reb Moshe Chaim Sapochkinsky, a senior and well-respected member the Montreal Jewish community and Lubavitch Anash, passed away on Monday morning, Elul 20, 5774.
He celebrated his 90th birthday this past Thursday.
Reb Sapochkinsky was the rav of one of Montreal’s most historic shuls, the Nusach Ari shul (in Bais Rivka Girls Academy) founded by his late father-in-law with a group of Russian Yidden, and a respected shochet.
He was one of the Shanghai talmidim who came to America in 1946 and was sent to Montreal by the Frierdiker Rebbe.
He is survived by his wife Sarah Leah and his children Yitzchak Sapochkinsky (Westlake Village, CA); Chana Capland (Columbus, Ohio); Rivkah Laine (Brooklyn, NY); Rachelle Even-Sapir (Gershovitz) Chashmonoi, Israel.
In a beautiful and moving twist, Reb Moshe Chaim’s grandchildren Ezie and Batel Gershowitz gave birth to twin boys within 2 hours of his passing.
