R’ Leib Skoblo, a Crown Heights activist who led the Crown Heights Shmira Patrol with dedication for many years, passed away suddenly on Monday, 15 Cheshvan, 5784.
He was 47.
He was named after his great-grandfather, Rabbi Yehuda Leib Levin, who served as the last Chief Rabbi of Moscow, Russia under Communism.
Shortly after the iron curtain fell, Leib was active in helping to bring Yidishkeit to the Russian Jewry.
Leib was a monumental pillar of strength and Chesed for the community of Crown Heights.
He was a long-time dedicated Coordinator of Crown Heights Shmira, and was a member for over 30 years. In recent years he founded the Crown Heights branch of Chaveirim, which assists anyone and everyone who needs it.
He was a big baal Tzedaka who had tremendous Hachnasas Orchim, and together with his wife Sarah Malka had an open home that welcomed many guests. He was always available to answer anyone in need, whether it was for advice, monetary assistance, or a physical presence to assist and help in any manner.
He cared and worked with all his energy for the security and safety of the Crown Heights community, and was available 24/7, 365 days a year for any Shmira-related matters.
He was constantly involved in community safety matters, and was a liaison to the NYPD for the community, tirelessly working to ensure the safety of the neighborhood.
This last weekend, even though he didn’t feel well, he was central base and was dealing with safety issues regarding the Crown Heights community during a large protest that was of concern to neighborhood residents.
“This is a huge loss for the Crown Heights Shmira organization and for the entire Crown Heights community, we need Moshiach now,” said his fellow Shmira members.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Malka and children, Mera Friend, Shaya, Tzviki, Arele, Zalman, and Gisa.
He is also survived by his parents, Yitzchak and Ella Skoblo and siblings Zalman Skoblo, Hersh Skoblo, Fraida Boas, Gutman Skoblo and Rochie Levy.
The Levaya will take place today, passing by 770 at 1:30 pm, and burial at Montefiore Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
Shiva will be held at 323 Crown Street

This is a major tragedy, not only for Crown Heights community, but the world over! I had the opportunity to deal with him in business and Chaverim, it was always a pleasure to work with him. In a few words, Leibel was fully dedicated to everything he did, from Shmira, Chaverim, and business, and family. A description of Leibel, (which cannot be defined by these wonderful attributes alone), however here are just a few that I personally uncounted with him. A Mensch to the fullest extent, a true Chossid of the Rebbe, honesty, and above all, his sweetness and love… Read more »

BDE!
When I lived in CH I didn’t have many friends but Leib was a true friend.
I will miss him.
BDE.
I didn’t know him personally but I did see him around.
Always, always with a smile.
Seemed like he was always looked up to by others for help and always busy on some kind of chessed mission.
May his family find comfort and be able to emulate his happy character as, surely, he would want.
And may this very short period of darkness end immediately with the coming of Moshiach when he will be reunited with his family and all of klal Yisroel in a physical body!
My fathers good friend

I have known Leib and the Skoblo family for 40 years, I have been like a family member in their house, and taught Leib his Bar Mitzvah maamar…sigh…I can’t deal with this..it’s too overwhelming,, Leib was a dear friend, and helped me when I needed his involvement and advice ..he helped everybody..a true Baal Chesed,, giving came natural to Leib….his perpetual smile.., nothing was ever difficult for him,,,if something was needed to be done he would be the first to get it done,,a man of actions,,not just talk,,,Leib please beseech the Heavens to bring Moshiach NOW!!! Missing you dearly,,,Ari
