R’ Eliyahu Botvinnikov, a resident of Crown Heights and more recently of Sea Gate, NY, passed away on Tuesday, 24 Teves, 5783.
He was 67.
R’ Eliyahu grew up in Samarkand, and would relate that he remembered attending Chassidishe Farbrengens as a child there with his father, who had traveled there from Kremenchuk during the war.
He later emigrated with his family from Russia, with their first stop in Los Angeles, California, where they met Rabbi Naftali Estulin of the Chabad Russian Immigrant Synagogue. They then moved to Florida where they were impacted by Rabbi Yosef Kahanov of Chabad of Jacksonville, FL.
They finally settled in Crown Heights for their children’s Chinuch, as the Chinuch of his children was always his top priority.
He was very connected with the Rebbe’s Torah and Mivtzoim, spreading it whenever he had the chance. He was involved in many outreach programs for the Russian Jewish community of New York, and was known as a true soldier of the Rebbe.
He worked in the field of surgeon, and later in laser therapy and then for Hamaspik, where he brought much joy to those he worked with. He was known for always being able to find and bring out the best qualities in everybody he met.
In recent years he lived in Sea Gate, NY.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Tamar Botvinnikov, and children, Dina Kagan – Crown Heights, Miriam Gubnitsky – Seagate, NY, Chana Vidrin – Monsey, NY, and Dovid Botvinnikov – Crown Heights.
The Levaya will take place on Wednesday, from the Blair Mazzarella Funeral Home at 723 Coney Island Ave. at 10:00 am, and passing by 770 at approximately 11:15 am. Burial at 123 – 83 Springfield Blvd, Springfield Gardens, Queens NY 11413.

We are deeply saddened by this terrible news. He frequented our chabad Jewish center during Tahalucha on Pesach & Shavuos and he always inspired our audience to be more devoted & to be more involved & to do everything in our power to hasten the Hisgalus of Moshiach Now!
