R’ Dovid Daniel Malka, owner of a long-time take-out restaurant and catering service in Crown Heights, passed away Sunday, Tishrei 25, 5772.
He was 58 and suffered from a long illness.
His food business on Carroll Street was frequented by many locals on Fridays, picking up fresh and steamy Shabbos dishes and getting to taste from them even before getting home.
Malka, a chossid and warm person, got his big break when he was trusted with cooking in the Rebbe’s private home for the Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson OBM. He later cooked for Oholei Torah Mesivta.
“He didn’t talk if he didn’t have to,” one family friend described him. “He gave lots of tzedakah and helped many people without everyone knowing about it.”
Malka celebrated his birthday during Sukkos and has a daughter that is getting married this coming month.
He is survived by his wife Chana Malka (nee Goldshmidt) and children Rabbi Yossi Malka – California; Nechami Deutsch – Crown Heights; Esty Klein – Miami, FL; Rochel Druk – Cancun; Zisi Malka – Crown Heights; and grandchildren.
The levaya will take place Monday, October 24 from Shomrei Hadas Chapels at 10:00 AM, it will pass by the Rebbe’s home and at 10:45 AM pass by 770 Eastern Parkway on its way to the burial at the Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens.
Shiva will be held in the Malka residence – 440 Brooklyn Avenue #2G Brooklyn, NY.

dear chana and the girls. there are no words. you are a credit to him. if anyone needed a favor that recquired some one extending themselves beyond the comfort zone or what is convenient or easily attained the place of to turn is the malkas. …. your country neighbor cl
To the Malka family my thoughts & prayers are with you. Rabbi Dovid left the world his wonderful children who are true Shluchim of the Rebbe. Rabbi Yossi you took the time to console me when my mum passed on, I am now so sorry for your terrible loss and pray that Hashem will console you & your family and pray even harder that this golus will end & you will be reunited with Rabbi Dovid now!!
My heart goes out to the Malka family, our refills are with you. I had the pleasure to spend one Shabbos with Rabbi Dovid & his family and felt I had known them all my life… I also spent many Shabbosim with Rabbi Yossi & Chaya Hinda. It was their Chassidishe warmth that made my short stay in Encino
The Malkas are an extraordinary family. Baalei chesed with a full hearts and simcha. When our family was sitting shiva for our mother, the Malkas sent us a message that a full Shabbos will be sent in to us. We need, we want Moshiach NOW
thank you! bde

Hamokoim Yenachem Eschem…
I’m sitting in Yerushlayim Ir Hakodesh & reading these heartrendering messages about Reb Dovid,I burst out crying with tears, not able to hold back such full emotion especially regarding the BarMitzvah meal that the Niftar prepared so beautifully.
Wishing Reb Dovid is busy preparing theGreat Seudah of Dovid Malka Moshiach Bimheira Beyomeinu Mamash.MOSHIACH NOW!
Hamakom Yenachem Eschem Besoch Shaar Evlei Tzion Veyerushalyim. To the Malka, family, my thoughts and tefilos are with u. Your father/husband was a gentle soul, whoever he met, it was with a smile and a kind gesture. Whenever he saw me he would ask how I was doing. His neshama should have an aliya and pierce the heavens and demand MOSHIACH NOW. Hashem should comfort u and may we only share and hear good news always.
Yossi we love you,
You are the best in the world
When my family and I began observing Shabbos, one of our earliest connections with the sanctity and beauty of Shabbos was when we would celebrate a Shabbos meal with Rabbi Yossi Malka and Chaya Hinda. However, the meals were made extra special whenever Rabbi Yossi would bring food back from his Father’s shop. A box full of Dovie’s Dips turned a nice Shabbos meal into an Oneg of epic proportions! When our eldest son celebrated his Bar Mitzvah we trucked in pallets of Dovie’s Dips so we could properly celebrate Shabbos…because Shabbos just isn’t Shabbos without Dovie’s Dips!!!!! May Hashem… Read more »

Hamakom Yenachem Eschem Besoch Shaar Evlei Tzion Veyerushalyim.
Another one of the people who just found Dovid Malca and his whole family to be such nice, nice people — no one can say anything bad — It’s very hard to believe this really happened.
I didn’t know him well, but I feel like I do, just having gone many times into his store, and the pleasant manner with which he was to everyone. SOOOO sad.
Moshiach NOW – Vehokitzu veranninu Shochnei Afar vehu besochom!
When I was younger, I used to go with my father to dovid malka on Friday afternoon and sometimes i had no choice and he always realized and he used to bribe me and say like if u behave ill give u my famous chicken nuggets. Boy I always behaved nicely.
So sad it happened to such a good family. No one can ever say something bad.
I’m sorry dear malka family.

I know R’ Dovid from Kfar Chabad when he was a bocher in yeshiva, I did not kept in touch but I know him as a very , very nice person. Hamakom yenachem etchem….The family should only of simchas from now on.
Dear Esti and all of the Malka family,
Hamokom yenacheim eschem …Moshiach should come already!!!
terrible news. may the family know only of simchas from now on.
I used to wait for the day when the “Dovid Malka Cookbook” would be published. There’s nothing like Dovid Malka’s food.
It’s interesting, if you think about it that the name “Dovid Malka” is a regular houshold name in Crown Heights….it’s a name always said with warmthn and happiniss…..
No one can find a bad word to say about him. Such a nice man…
He will be missed…..
To write any praise about Dovid would be minimizing him.
A good man with a good word to say to me .i will remember him favorably ..so will Hashem.
As a bochur in Ohalei Torah Reb Dovid OB”M cared for every bochur as his own son and always went the extra mile to make sure the food was plentiful, tasty and of high quality! Like number 13 Reb Dovid made my vort and we all loved him as a father not as just a cook!
Boruch Dayan Ho-emes vehakeetzu veranenu … Vehu besoicam now!

A lot of people’s fondest moments center around Reb Dovid’s cooking. He was the essence of nuturance. He fed people, b’gashmius. But his real “feeding” was his smile, his warmth, his generousity. All of this, food for the soul. Reb Dovid will be missed, but as food is incorporated into the body to give energy, so will all of the qualities of goodness that he shared with us.
Hashem!!! What is going on here? Zisi, I am sitting here, and crying for you, and I dont even know you personally. May your father be a melitz yosher for you, and your chosson, and light the way for you to have a beautiful life together…. with MOSHIACH NOW!
There is so much we can learn from this extraordinary man Dovid, until literally a few days ago he tried his best coming to Shul every Shabbis ( although it was very obvious how much pain he was in ) he smiled, and laughed as if everything was alright.
Motzay Shabnosim he would come pick up the hot boxes from the Kidushim and have a quick conversation with us, he did not let anything get in his way to live every day to it’s fullest!!!!
Hashem should give his family the strenghth to continue living in his example.
My heart goes out to the family. I personally benefited innumerable tines from the kidushim he sponsored every single Shabbos upstairs in 770, and from the melaveh malkos he sponsored weekly , both on a grand scale.
Boruch Dayan HaEmes
we will miss your warm smille evrey friday. you realy ware the dovid malkah mshicha
according to the Lubavicher Rebbe (to increase safety against all harm including untimely death R”L) the top 3 concrete steps the public can do: 1) Annual checks on Tfilin & Mezuzos 2) Jewish self respect, in the form of adherence to jewish-law in modesty 3) Daily study of Chitas & Rambam as the Rebbe put it: “the above has an impact on the safety of the whole family & collective safety of the entire community” the Rebbe’s only motivation (in telling us this SEGULOS for safety) is bec he cares for our own best interest, its NOT ABOUT SELLING RELIGION,… Read more »
It was a very very emotional and traumatic week. I was the one who took care of the shiva house while having just had a baby by c-section. One of the shiva days, huge trays of food arrived from NY to the house in Montreal where everyone was sitting. It was so special, and tray upon tray of delicious prepared food with love. It comforted my mother and her siblings and gave me ‘koychos’ to continue tending to all their needs. Thank you R’ Dovid – may your family be comforted by all the special loving gestures he had done…our… Read more »
It was 1994, I was living in Flabush, and had $500 with which to make a bar mitzva. I call David Malka and asked him if I could just get some delicious chicken from him for the seuda for a few friends and my son’s classmates; and my neighbors and I would prepare the rest of the food. He asked about my situaion, and told me to invite “everyboby” up to 100 people, and as long as I would provide the paper goods, soda and the fruit cups, he would be able to cater the entire rest of the seuda… Read more »

so so sad, what a beautiful and sweet man. may his family have comfort
if you count the hours a day he was up and working and not wasting time he was more active in hours then someone who lives way into the 90’s.
he was always really nice to me in shul, though i never shopped at his catering, or never really knew him, what a loss
Baruch Dayan HaEmes. Very, very sad.
My heart goes out to the Malka family. They are all so close and we know how hard it is for them. May you only have simchas
