Rabbi Aharon Gershon Farkash, a respected Chosid and Torah scholar and survivor of the horrors of the Holocaust, passed away Friday, 22 Av, 5772.
He was 97.
After losing his first wife and children in the Holocaust, Rabbi Farkash moved to Israel and remarried and settled in Bnei Brak, living there for many years. He was a Chavrusa – study partner of Harav Wosner until 2 years ago.
“He never stopped learning Torah,” his grandson Dudi Farkash told COLlive. “He had a clear mind until his last day.”
Rabbi Farkash is the father of halachic authority Rabbi Yekusiel Farkash – rav of the Chabad Kehila in Jerusalem, Rabbi Osher Farkash – shochet of the Viznitzer Rebbe in Monsey, Rabbi Moshe Farkash – Rosh Yeshiva in Vienna, and Yaffa of Jerusalem.
Rabbi Farkash had the merit to see five generations, and is survived by his wife Leah Rochel, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, many of whom are on shlichus around the world.
The funeral took place in Jerusalem Friday afternoon and he was laid to rest in Har Hamenuchos.
Rabbi Yekusiel Farkash, his son, who is in New York for the Yarchei Kallah gathering, will be sitting Shiva on Friday at the home of Velvel Farkash, 642 Eastern Parkway.
Shachris: 10AM, Mincha 1:30PM, on Motzai Shabbos Maariv B’Zman.
He will leave to Eretz Yisroel on Motzei Shabbos, and will continue sitting Shiva at his home, 30 Eli Hacohen Street, Jerusalem.
