As Purim approaches, Neshamos wants to remind our community of a simple yet powerful message: If someone doesn’t say yes to a drink, walk away. If they say no, then there is no question—respect their decision.
Over the past few years, we’ve heard from many individuals, both within Crown Heights and beyond, who deeply appreciate this awareness. Some people cannot drink—whether due to medical reasons, personal struggles, or addiction. Offering or pressuring someone to drink can have serious consequences, not just for them but for their families as well.
Purim is a time of joy, celebration, and unity. But for too many, it can also be a time of hidden pain. The pressures of communal drinking have led to tragic situations, broken homes, violence and years of struggle for individuals who never intended to go down that path.
We urge our community to recognize the responsibility that comes with their choices. Let us ensure that Purim remains a time of true simcha—one where no one is put in a situation they cannot handle, and where we uplift and support one another with care.
This Purim, let’s make a choice: to be mindful, to be responsible, and to ensure that our celebrations bring only light and joy to those around us.
Neshamos wishes the entire community a joyous, safe, and uplifting Purim filled with true simcha and unity.

Personal experience, Six years sober myself and I ran a program.

Please ,my son thinks alcohol is okay and doesn’t take me seriously because he sees the rebeim give it out and thinks that its apart of a chassidishe farbrengen. This needs to stop cold turkey. Let the kids stay innocent and they’ll decide when they’re of legal age and their brains are more developed wether they wabt to drink or not. Please ban alcohol completely for underage kids.
