After months of isolation, Jewish Women Influencers and Nshei Chabad wondered if people would be responsive to the idea of getting together with neighbors. We were aiming high – 71 gatherings as a birthday gift for the Rebbe to herald 71st year of leadership!
Thanks to this amazing spirit of cooperation, WE DID IT! How heartwarming it was to get an enthusiastic thumbs up from practically every woman who was asked to help coordinate their area! They created WhatsApp groups for their block or building, and organized gatherings and farbrengens. Some met in homes, some zoomed, and some did combos, meeting and zooming in their corona-cautious neighbors.
One good deed leads to another. Project 71 gave the impetus to bring our dream project “We all Belong, CH” to fruition. These wonderful women have become official Block or Building “Connectors” so that we can benefit from ongoing connection, gatherings and learning.
So now we had two birthday gifts for the Rebbe – 71-plus gatherings, and a unique Connection system for the women of Crown Heights called “We all Belong, CH.”
Those who lived in Crown Heights in the 1970s will remember that a most vibrant block network had flourished for years. Many do now know that the Rebbe was the one who had asked that there be block mashpios and shiurim [to foster learning and connection throughout the community]. Crown Heights was an urban model of note, a beautiful connection system unreplicated in any Jewish community.
We all Belong, CH is re-igniting this feeling of belonging. “We all Belong CH” – an exciting initiative that took off after the Poway shooting – is connecting neighbors and friends, and sending the message that we are here to support each other. What does it do?
Builds connections with neighbors
Created a central information network, thanks to modern technology: Everyone is hooked up through the Block Connector, and each [Block and Building] Connector is connected to the central hub. This way everyone gets to hear about important events, program recordings and more, geared to women. No one is left out!
Important: If you did not receive an invitation to join a Project 71 event, reach out to your Block or Building Connector. If you do not see your area or building listed below, contact 347-267-9592, 718-307-9093, or 347-224-8032.
Exciting option for non-Crown-Heightsers: Thanks to people from other neighborhoods – and continents – who asked to join we exceeded our goal of 71! Non-Crown-Heightsers: we can add your Connector to the network. You will be privy to program notifications and recording playbacks.
