The last two years has seen the creation of a new Bar Mitzvah program “Man Up” geared for Yeshivah College students of year 7 in Melbourne, Australia.
With an all-encompassing curriculum to cater for a variety of abilities, built on multiple intelligences and inclusion of all students. This after school program has taken the school community by storm.
With its own specially catered Bar Mitzvah dinner, memoranda, certificates of accomplishments it has gained the acclaim of students, parents and community.
Rabbi Benyomin Serebryanski who has developed this special program has been delighted with the response and support from the community.
This year students made Tefillin boxes with the assistance of local sofer Rabbi Eli Gutnick, have learnt to write letters of the Tefillin, studied about Teffilin from Gemorah and Poskim, learnt more about themselves and their goals and responsibility in becoming Bar Mitzvah. This forms just part of the curriculum which extends over a 22 week period.
Recently a fully catered dinner was held in the Goldhirsch hall that was attended by 100 people.
Rabbi Serebryanski welcomed the guests and presented a slide show with the outline of the curriculum and a video of activities students experienced throughout the program. Kovi New led with the birkas homotzie. Mendel Serebryanski and Levi Stern, read the Rebbe’s letter for Bar Mitzvah boys. A capital Tehillim was recited by Berel Cyrulnick.
Michoel Rosenbaum and Ari Jacobs spoke on behalf of the participants expressing their feelings of appreciation for the program and what they gained.
Dinner was served followed by music with Mordy Adelist and Yochai Cohen.
Thereafter Rabbi Yehoshua Smukler, Principal of Yeshivah College, spoke of the importance of becoming Bar Mitzvah and the value of the program they have just participated in.
The “Man Up” Bar Mitzvah program was built on three themes, Torah Avodah and Gemilus Chassodim. Rabbi Smukler acknowledged the incredible achievement of the boys raising over $1,800 to sponsor an orphan Bar Mitzvah boy in Eretz Yisrael and food for his family.
Rabbi Yaakov Glasman spoke on behalf of the parents whose sons participated in the program expressing the excitement felt by the students in coming to the program.
Certificates were then presented by Rabbi Smukler, Rabbi Leivi Morozow and Rabbi Serebryanski to the students for their participation in this program and a thanks from Pantry Packers – Colel Chabad in Eretz Yisroel for having raised the money to support the Bar Mitzvah Boy and his family.
Awesome initiative, much Hatzlocho!
Yeshiva College Melbourne (AKA Yeshivas Oholei Yosef Yitzchol Lubavitch) is such an awesome Moised. Such a diverse group of families under the principalship of Rabbi Smukler.
Rabbi Serebryanski you are a true Dugma Chayo and a Chosid of the Rebbe. You are so dedicated to the Chinuuch of the next generation of Chassidim. My son loved the program and gained so much. All the boys have a Chayus in Bar Mitzva
Such an amazing program. The boys have a sense of purpose and an understanding of what it means to be a Bar Mitzva. How fantastic that they focused on raising money to help a boy in Eretz yisroel. This is trully what it means to be a Chosid.
Thank you Rabbi Serebryanski for such a succesful program.
Go Rosey!
How wonderful to see positivity and modeling happening. The correct way to raise the next generation. Koll Hakavod Rabbi Serebryanski.
